Calamity of errors

Well it's getting old posting failures in dropping coyote, but here's the latest.
I was on call and had to take care of an emergency in the city, so my buddy went to the first stand at a bait pile solo.
He saw nothing but fox + racoon and I arrived an hour later when the shifting wind started picking up and the temps dropped.
I tweaked my leg earlier, so I made it halfway across the field and set up the call and enjoyed the now present moon.
I start calling and fox start running around, then a coyote shows up downwind in the woods between me and my buddy.
We figured it didn't smell either of us because of the freshly spread cow slurry aroma I was cursing earlier, but now was thankful for.
It lingered around the thick woods eluding us and when it did come into the field it was 135 yards away from me in a low spot forty yards away from my buddy, but over a rise out of his sight.
I didn't know he couldn't see it, so I was recording and waiting for him to fire.
When he didn't fire, I checked him out with the spotter and he was fumbling with something.
Ends up his comms batteries died and he was trying to change batteries in the dark without tuning his light on scaring the coyote.
I put one and three together and when the dog started to get fidgety I decided to take the shot.
I don't know what's worse, going out and seeing/hearing nothing or going out, calling dogs in, having them hang around downwind and then missing them.

I wish I could say that’s never happened to me shoots! After last year’s garbage winter, the snow finally melted off with only weeks to go before the season ended. I got into coyotes on many stands and either missed or wounded them. Like 5 or 6 in a row! Turns out my thermal had somehow reset to the factory zero! My profiles were all at zero/zero. Got that straightened out and started killing again.

So this year, when the snow melts off with only weeks left of the season, I’m checking my profiles! 🤣

Hey Shoots, what I see in the video is that you are set on black hot and using a black reticle with a very small dot. It appeared that you moved off your sight just before the first shot and then came back on as if searching for the dot. If there happened to be any obstruction between you and the target you would probably never see it.? ???:unsure:

I’m sure it looks different in the scope, but I can’t even see that crosshair in the video. Maybe a white on black? Or a big red 🔴
But, you did shoot, lol!!!

What are you boys talking about? You can't see the green crosshair?

How sure are you that you missed? I've had a couple run off like I missed and found them lying dead 100 yards away.

OK, week ago I got a minor case of Bell's Palsy. Liquid dribbles out of left side of mouth and can't close only one eye. Anyway going to the ranch last Thursday. Big tear up from hogs. Yea. Sat out with the IR rifle, shucks, no hogs, just a rabbit. Emptied the mag and NO hit. Had recoil recording on, no recording! Went to range to verify today. No matter what zeroing I did I got a nice 1/2" group 3" left. CS tried to help but I think I got the run-around. I'll try again when the rain stops. Well, at least not my eye sight that's bad.
