The great rifle debate

I’ve killed lots of coyotes with a 50 ballistic tip out of a 223. These were all daytime kills. For night time I like 300 fps with that same 50 ballistic tip, out of a 22-250. If hit in the chest, the “run” is very short or zero.

I don’t use the 6.5’s for coyotes, but both rifles shoot the Federal varmint load with the 95gr Vmax bullets lights-out. If you’re looking for a good off-the-shelf round for 6.5 CM and coyotes, that would be my suggestion.
I agree with those 95g V max bullets. I’ve used 22-250 50g Superformance for years and it just seems like more and more I was getting spinners or runners. The second half of this season I gave the Varmint Express Hornadys and my 6.5cm a try and had zero runners…..more times than not the dog just dropped in its tracks. It’s not fur friendly most of the time but it gets the job done.

My son traded some wheels and tires for a Seekins PH2 in 6CM. The only bullets he could find in his neck of the woods were 108 ELD-M, so he swapped his thermal from a B14 22-250 to the Seekins and took the new kid out for a spin. The first two kills folded up like puppets with the strings cut and barely twitched. So he did a little research. I guess the match bullets aren’t crimped mid-length so the top half just disintegrates in all directions inside the yote and what passes through looks like a cigarette butt coming out the other side. Small entry, small exit, big mess in between. He hasn’t gone back to the ‘250.😁 So maybe if you have a box of 140 ELD-M’s laying around, they might be worth a try too.

I’m pretty sure I do have a few of those laying around in an ammo can! I’ll have to give those a shot!!!

I shoot the 140 eld-m out of a .260 rem and I have only had one coyote get away that was hit out of over 100. The one stat got away was hit broadside at about 40 yards. Went down hard and stayed down for about 15 seconds. Then it got up and took off running like it was never even hit. Never recovered it nor was there much of a blood trail.

LOL not sure but I think that was typo there ... maybe????? ( ;) we all at some point have that happen to us, for me it's usually more often than not. Which honestly I did the auto correct in my head and understood it as the 108's)
Should it have have been 108 ELD-M, vs the listed 140 ELD-M which I assuming is for the 6.5mm vs the 6mm bore size.

I did try some of the 108 ELD-M in the 6mm AI even though I have NO interest in that weight for Varminting.
Bit pricy when doing multiple hundred rounds to travel with for hunting Gophers / PD's.

But I wander a bit from the results in the 6mm AI and the 108 ELD-M they shot very good on paper. Didn't take a bunch of development in the 6mm AI either.
Which I will try them in the 6mm CM once the stock for the rifle gets in. (more for giggle factor than to use on a hunt, which is usually the afore mentioned Gophers and PD's. Plus never hurts to have 20 or so loaded up fer the way bigger "varmints")

Yeah it does get one when they have or discussing when they have Creedmoor's is differing bore sizes.
Guilty of the same LOL.
Without looking at the log I was using Win StaBALL match in the 6mm AI with the Hornady 108 ELD-M, which was showing promise at 0.5" .
