BCA 22wmr upper (review added)

Who here has one? I'm thinking of getting one, I have the 17hmr upper and it shoots amazingly well. I'm guessing the same spring and buffer the 17 uses will work on the 22mag? I know BCA has some bad reviews but everything I have from them shoots and functions well.

I have had 2 BCA uppers. The bolt action was in 6arc and cycled so badly I sent it back. Customer service is amazing, no hassle returns and now I have a 22 ARC in side pull, 20 " barrel. Shoots very nice. I shot 3 Hornady ammo choices. The lightest 62 gr don't cycle well, lots of jams, the 75 gr Black shoots lights out and the 80 gr hunter was about 1.5" groups. No problems with jamming on those heavier choices. I am new to ARs so I don't yet know about gas systems and how to possibly adjust for the lighter ammo. This is so much fun that I will probably get a 6ARC in 16" side pull for a deep woods gun. Whatever Caliber you get, I think the value of a BCA is worth it.

True but I was also addressing whether or not to try a BCA with their history of bad reviews. With their price point, and no questions return policy, it makes it easier to try calibers that we may not have explored before.

I've had good results with their uppers, 243 and 17hmr so far. Had to put on an adjustable GB on the 243. I think the 22 mag would be a fun lil popper. Hunting buddy of mine has several too, other than gas block issues and needing tuned, he's happy.

I do not have a 22 mag upper. I do have 300 blkout and 6.5 Grendel. Both BCA have tons of rounds through them. Primary hunting rifles in S GA for deer and hogs. Both on PSA blem lowers with new stocks and triggers. Both very cost effective and I've never had an issue.

I'm interested in how it shoots and functions. I've been thinking about getting one for a while now. I think it'd be a good, inexpensive varmint gun.

I have this in the 17HMR as well. It's the only BCA that I own, but it does shoot pretty darn good, especially for the price. I would assume the 22 mag would be similar.

Received the upper on Friday. Ordered the scope from uncle Larry, a Vortex crossfire 4x12x44. Got home tonight a mounted everything.

Placed the target at 50 and tried some winchester 45 gr. Only one out of 15 fired, rim dented, no bang. No Bueno. Tried some cci 40 gr gamepoint, success.

This pic is finding my mark, getting her sighted in. Bad lighting with me being in the sun and the target in the woods had my final shots at a spit stain.

Wife texted me and said , " be done, daughter is on a zoom call and check the loaf"

Meat loaf was on the smoker so I packed up the operation and headed in. Last few shots had ftf on last round in mag. Dunno on that one. Had a couple rds with failed crimp too.

I didn't get 50 down the pipe, so more testing to follow and more ammo to try. Giving it a good cleaning and hopefully tomorrow, some more down range.

More shooting or attempted shooting completed last night. Filled mag with 14 hornady 30gr. Only 1 fired.

Grabbed some federal 50 gr, just loaded 5. 1 ftf 4 popped.🤨

Finished off the box of cci I sighted it in with, 1st pull ftf, eject, pop, pop, pop, ftf, ftf, pop, pop, pop, pop, ftf, ftf, pop, pop. Put the ftf rounds back in mag, 4 popped 1 ftf, put it back in 3 more times before it went off. 😤

Going to clean again tonight, going to give BCA a call today and see if they have any insight. Hate pulling the trigger and not knowing if a round will go down range or not. It's like shooting a flintlock, practice your hold.

Have a 22lr upper from Bear Creek with a sparrow on it and had to run it really clean for the 1000 rounds and then switched out the firing pin with bore buddy and have only had 1 or 2 failure to fire since. If you pull the firing pin and look inside and it is rough clean it up good. I used some wet sanding and clean it very well. Not any issues so far.

Talked to a tech at BCA. He told me to tear it down and clean the firing pin and spring really good. I thought I did that already, but will clean again. Hate to have to wet sand it. I'll update as I tinker.

As good a start point as any. I'm sure the firing pin is like most rimfires stamped. Which can lead to drag, slowing the pin down less force. It's not uncommon that occasionally the cases "could" be at min thickness (rim) and chamber at max or close to it. Not to mention the alloy of the case. Sorry thinking out loud here, of what some of the issues could be.

Yeah I think if it was me with the issue. I'd round up a 1000 plus grit sandpaper, a pane of glass, and some water then lightly attempt to take down burrs if present, taking the approach of polishing. Check the spring for obvious kinks or short conditions could be just a short spring. Outside them sending a extra spring to check against, maybe asked the spring's length (free length) spec's they use in assembly with the tech ??? just a thought. Wish you luck.

Regards
Mike
