Trying some new powder Hodgdon universal loading 230 grain 45acp and 185 gr. And 124,115 and 145 grain 9mm Anybody use universal in these 45 and 9mm?

I wish I had info but I will be following this thread to learn as well.

Back when things went so crazy after the 2020 election and powders started disappearing off the shelves I purchased a couple lbs of Universal to use for 9mm 124g but then I never used it because later on I found some CFE Pistol and the Hodgdon load data shows it as having higher velocities. Nosler and Hornady load data both show CFE Pistol as one of the powders with higher velocities so I have just used it. If Universal is a good powder for either 9mm or 10mm I am interested. Universal is my goto powder for light to medium 357 mag loads, that's the only pistol cartridge I reload.. sorry can't help on 45 & 9mm.

Right now american reloading has pistol powder 4lbs for $119 good price and all the powder I've gotten from American reloading has worked perfect, ordered it get it in a couple of weeks, got lots of powder from them they lost one order but sent it to me as soon as they had it. Got 1000 45acp hollow point projectiles $68.00 they shoot great. If you're not in a hurry "3 weeks " max but it always comes. Worth the wait

Just to let you know 4lbs of powder will be delivered today, american reloading doesn't charge you a hazmat charge everything is included. When I get the powder I'll chronograph it, there powder is pulled they say it's like hodgdon universal, I've bought rifle powder that's like hodgdon 335 I loaded it and chronographed it it's almost exactly like hodgdon 335, I'll load it today with a medium load chronograph it and get the numbers then I'll adjust it for what I want I'll load 10 9mm 124 grain and 10 45acp 230 grain see how they feel then I load what's perfect for what I'm shooting "home defense or target " with my 45 and my 9mm I'm normally right on.take some pictures of the targets. American reloading has been awesome

Got the powder yesterday, I'll load up 20 rounds of each 9mm 10 124 grain medium load 10 147 grain medium load 20 rounds 45acp 10 185 grain 10 230 grain both medium loads was told hodgdon universal not as jumpy as titegroup ,Titegroup is fast burning and universal is medium burning

Have not used it much, but bought a stash of it way back in the Clinton yrs as a shtf do-all powder for pistols and shotguns. Its been around for 30 yrs or so now, so its gotta be useful for a buncha people?

Got to try my new powder from American reloading shot a little softer than titegroup but it was almost exactly like hodgdon universal this is pulled powder and it shoots just like hodgdon universal and cost $126 for 4 lbs chronographed perfect 950 fps real smooth shooting not quite as snappy then the titegroup I loaded I like the feel better I also shot better. Titegroup takes 3.7 grains universal takes 3.8 and almost the same fps and shoots alot smoother

Thanks for the detailed info.
Curious, was it their MP 209-2 ?
their own burn chart shows MP 209-2 as slower burning than Universal and closer to HS-6 or CFE pistol : MP-burn-chart
MP158 -2 I believe the burn rate is a little slower than titegroup, it's supposed to be a medium burn rate,it shot perfect for me ,I bought 1lb of titegroup $60 this 158-2 shot just like hodgdon universal almost perfect

At $150 after taxes and it works great, got it in about 10 days
Also bought some mp-418 for my AR said it is like hodgdon 335,and it was a little slower than hodgdon 335 but real close, I have accurate 2015 it shot so much better than the 2015, $225. For 8lbs I'm ok with powder for a while, American reloading is awsome I also buy projectiles from them clean them a little better there great
