The fly fishing bug hit me hard, plus the fact I had to fill out some paperwork when another company took over my 401k and I had to pick my approximate death date.

I decided since I’ve apparently lived longer than the time I have left, I’m going to start doing more of the things I want to do.

I’ve been driving 3.5hrs every other weekend to learn and trout fish the Chattahoochee River. In between that time I’ve been hitting the ponds and realized the fun in catching bream while tight lining nymphs.

We also took a trip to Oklahoma mid July and I’d booked CJ and I a guided bass fishing trip. This kid put 12 in the boat and lost 2 at the boat. I put 7 in the boat and lost 2. And the guide put 6 in the boat. At one point we had a triple…all of us hooked up. CJ and I doubled 3 times, lol. That’s 29 fish to the boat in about 3hrs of fishing!!! It’s been a HOT but fun Summer!!

Ya shoulda let me know you were coming Spur. My next door neighbor is a bass tournament fisherman and has all the goodies necessary for success. Also, we are only 6 miles from the clean end of lake Eufaula, largest lake in Oklahoma. Good to see you back on here.:giggle:
 
We fished Broken Bow Reservoir and I fished the Lower Mountain Fork for trout. The guides I talked to said that used to be the Mecca for trout and then a new park manager opened up the streams to everyone and it was a circus to put it mildly. It’s my understanding they used to have “Anglers only in the water” areas and swimming/tubing/destroying areas. Now it’s open to whatever. Trash on the banks and in the water, dirty diapers, shoes and clothes everywhere. I managed a few trout dodging other folks but it wasn’t what the brochure said it was. Even trying to get away from folks didn’t work for me. The guides know where some big fish are and camp their clients on them…literally. They will sit in one spot and cast to a certain fish until it’s caught or the clients time is up. That could be one HECK of a trout stream with just a few rules. I did manage a rare Brown trout though. One guide told me it’s 95% stocked Rainbows and 5% wild Browns.

I’d like to try it in the Fall when according to the guides, there’s a lot less tourist. That’s just a long ride if it’s not any better!
 
I can't apologize for others failure to preserve and protect our wildlife and beautiful waterways. I am also experiencing the pollution brought in by people who have no concern or respect for the beautiful creations of God. The park manager should be fired, rules should be enforced, littering citations should be issued regularly.
My son-in-law was born and raised in Broken Bow (he was killed in a motorcycle accident) and he knew that part of Oklahoma very well. He and I had discussed the possibility of jointly buying a parcel of land and building our retirement homes. Plans were cancelled by his death.
As you know, that area is a tourist magnet and we have a lot of visitors come up from Texas (most of them are transplanted from other states) and have their day in the outdoors and leave their trash here when they go home, not all, but some. Wish I could make up for their shortcomings. All the best to you in your outdoor endeavors>:)

Yeah, Hochatown is trying to become a Branson Missouri. That’s why the guides I talked to told me to come back when all the fair weather folks leave.
Granted, we did go the week after Independence Day so that had a lot to do with it as well. But every guide made sure to show me pics of the signs that used to be stream side, lol. I guess I was the only one to show “stream side manners”. I was fishing one morning and heading to a spot about 75yds past a guide and a client and stopped and asked what direction they were heading? The lady stopped and looked at me like I had my zipper undone. She tapped her client and said “This is a fly fisherman” She went on to say it’s been years since anyone had asked which direction and would they mind if they fell in behind them covering the waters they’d already fished. She told me I could fish right beside them if I wanted, lol. I told her the run I wanted to nymph and she gave her blessing even though it was upstream, saying they were heading back downstream after that point anyways.
Courtesy got me in good with those I encountered and another Lady Guide told me if I ever come back to look her up and she’d take me fishing with no charge.
