H-380 in 22-250

I ordered a 22-250 and it should be here this summer. Planning on loading up some 52gr Berger FB Varmint with Ramshot Big Game. Originally I intended to use Varget however, at $20 a pound more money, ahhh I'll see if I can work up a load with something else.

I like Varget because it’s far less sensitive to temperature. Maybe the Big Game powder is as well, I’m not familiar with that powder. In the grand scheme of things a few more cents per shot is not a big deal, if one can get better performance. That’s my two cents.
 
Good barrels usually are not fussy with powder/charge weights. Bullets? Can be more problematic. Big Game should play well with 52 gr fb bullets.
 
varget is the first and last word for 22-250 powder. its the most forgiving load of any rifle I load for. I think the point of impact is the same with 4 grains less powder and several hundred FPS slower.

If I run competition I would've tweeked the COAL and probably played with another 1/10 gr. however, I'm shooting coyotes and content with the results. And of course match grade bullets would perform better also.

The threads from 2010 but il still post my findings anyways. H380 and a 50gr vmax is one of my favorite loads and I have used it in temps all the way down to -35. Never shot groups that cold but the coyotes that died never noticed the difference 😂

I know the thread is old as well however, maybe someone can find something useful from it., :)
A friend of mine bought a Weatherby Black Hills last fall chambered in a 22-250 and I told him I load him some rounds, he chose 53gr. Vmax we loaded H-380.
After 8 recipes the best it was shooting was 7/8" group, not good enough. Long story short I found where others were having the same issue in a Weatherby forum, one fellow found a huntable fix with a 5/8" group by using magnum primers, we tried it and got his gun shooting a 5/8" group. I started with 38 and went up to 38.6, those surprisingly wouldn't shoot. Then I backed it down to 36.7 up to 37.6. He was tired of playing with recipes but I would still liked to tried 39 and went up in .2 gr increments. We settled on 37grs and magnum primers. He's happy so we're good
