When I was maybe 15 or so I bought a KBAR for hunting & camping. Was farting around one day & the blade broke off at the hilt, turns out that for all their reputation this is a long known design flaw. They have a very skinny tang & if you break one, that usually where.
I ran into a Buck 119 on display at a Service Merchandise & it was the only one. They couldn't find the sheath for it so gave me a discount on it, that was maybe 1978 pr 1979 at the latest. I used the KBAR sheath for it for many years. One year in the early 90s the NRA convention was in Nashville so we went & I met people at the Buck display. I told that story to one guy & he said "no, that knife needs to be in a Buck sheath. Give me your address & I'll send you one"
They actually have (or maybe had) 2 sheath designs for it. One day in the mail I had a package, he had sent me both.
It stays in my hunting pack, no telling how many deer I've cut up with it

Here is there first treestand I got about 47 years ago.
Actually it's a seat (couldn't afford both).
It's been set up in 100s of trees. Have not used it in years as my ass seems to have gotten enlarged abit but just looking at it floods my brain with memories.
I used it HARD for about 30 years.

We have a "red ant" here that isn't an ant. it's actually a velvet wasp. Red & black, fuzzy. Looks like a HUGE hairy ant but it's a wingless wasp. Commonly called a cow killer due to how bad the sting hurts. It's rated just below a bullet ant in pain
The wingless one is a female & they're solitary. the ones with wings -I don't think they have the same colors- are males & they're also solitary. I saw one or 2 in Eufaula. Now, in the last 2 - 3 weeks I've seen one here in back 2 times. Probably the same one
The sting is not very toxic, it just hurts like bloody hell. they have a very hard exoskeleton so are very hard to kill by crushing, which is how most people get stung. I just leave the damned things alone, there are about 8000 variants on this species globally & they don't really seem to be a problem.
They female looks for some other species nest to lay an egg in & when it does, it only lays one egg. So it's never going to end up with a large nest with lots of these things. I've only seen one maybe 4 times total in my life

Yeah Stu, I'm old and I have saw these things several times. They pop like stepping on a pecan when you send them to the happy hunting ground. As a kid I never understood why they were known as "cow killer" until my cousin tried to pick one up, he had a hissy fit when it got him!

Big Grass Fore update:
578,637 acres now 94% contained.
Everything west of the purple line is closed, but we are able to get out and hunt. Scouted last week and found both antelope and mulies. So, my son and I are leaving in the morning for an archery hunt. First time in 30 plus years for me, but feel pretty good about it.
I have this vague memory of being able to hunt with a backpack and a rifle . Now the truck is loaded and so is the RZR. Sucks getting old.
