My sister and her then to be non-hunting husband planed there wedding for a weekend in October and a good portion of the family called her and said they couldn't make it as that was the opening of duck season, she rescheduled.

I hear that. My wife made sure we got married in late spring to avoid hunting seasons. (I'm an infrequent turkey hunter.)
