Thought I hit record

First set of a 2 set night. Another 1/2mile+ walk to the ridge top meadow that is now being pastured that included getting "stung" by an electric fence (second time this fall ). S wind with me looking W and the call about 50yds to my NW. Because of the rolls in the hillside I can't see much more than 50yds to my W but got a good view NW and N so was hoping to draw any critters there and shoot before they winded me.
The one on the vid must have been over the roll and in the field because he showed up within seconds of the rabbit squeals at low volume! Very large male at about 75yds.
I ramped up the vol for a couple more minutes, then quiet for a couple. Next a howl sequence was sent out and answered before it finished by a group within 2-300yds in front of me from the wooded hollow. Shortly I see 5 or 6 trotting rt to lt (getting the wind?).
I reposition the tripod and DON'T REMEMBER whether I tried to hit record or not as I admit to being excited:giggle:. I howl and they stop. I shoot, 1 drops and the others run. I start kiyiing and some stop. I shoot and another runs a few yds and falls. I continue to kiyi and a 3rd stops. I get a round in it, but it takes a finisher. These 3 were between 2-230yds per onx.
The odd thing is the make-up--3 adult males and 1 YOY female.
It took me a while to find the first one as it made it into the woods and my view was blocked by the 'stampede'. After remembering that I can wifi vids to my phone from the Thermion I replayed it then aimed the laser at where he was standing. I went straight downhill and into the briar/multiflora rose woods and found him about 20yds in. He ran about 80-90 being gut shot with the 58vmax at about 3040fps.
The other 3 also ran a few yds with the same load with good shot placement. Don't know about this 16" barrel and the velocity I get out of the accurate loads. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME
I am using Benchmark (most accurate and a bit faster in this gun) now but have used Varget.

Your Getting Some good hunting nights now... persistent pays off it's looking like your getting out of the dry spell

With the 58 gr vmax have you tried bringing the crosshairs up a little on the shoulder or high chest/neck area? Im shooting blitzkings and i occasionally get a runner if i try blowing its heart out lol but that impact to the shoulder puts them drt

That will take a mind set change from 6 decades of bowhunting—l will try to remember and do it as l have hit some in the shoulder that just folded

Well, I'm going to have to name you Mike the Hammer! Your speed with 58's seems really slow even for a 16" barrel. I like AR-Comp with that bullet, but H4895 has worked well too.

Owen, only 37.5 of Benchmark is where it is accurate--groups opened and were doubled at 38.5 so I went no more. I am gonna try to find some 70 sierras per Hoosier N-D to work up a load a try but also TRY to get this old brain to aim at the shoulder.

that's a great set, Mike! Glad it happened for you. I hope the streak continues. High shoulder, straight up the leg folds them up hard in most cases. I understand the deer hunting placement though. Especially on a set like that when your brain goes on auto pilot! Lol... Great job none the less!

I'm heading out for a couple sets myself... NY season opened today. Breezy South winds and lots of standing crops. I have a couple places in mind. Hopefully I'll have some hero pics and stories to post about later on!

GOOD LUCK BOB, I missed it, for some reason I was thinking you opened on the 15th.

70 Ballistic Tips deserve a look if the Sierras don't pan out.

My little 6x6.8 shoots those at 3200 or so in my 20" X-Caliber AR barrel.
Shot exclusively Nosler varmint BT's in .223 & 308. Did use 87 gr. Speer TNT in the 243 WSSM (IIRC around 3000 fps ) as suggested by Mike Millie for the AR.

ordered the sierras from Midsouth after reading your post Hoosier--thanks, I hope

Al, I remember you saying about those before and today thought you and Hoosier were talking the same bullets--now I 'member you were talking Noslers.

Mike, I tried both the 70 Blitzkings & the 70 BT's during load development, & the BT's had an ever so slight accuracy advantage, so I went with those. No muss, no fuss, & kills them dead w/o being messy.

Now the 70 BKs I do shoot in one of my 6 Dashers on prairie dogs, and the results are spectacular, as in NSFW....😲😲

I hear that, Mike… I dragged the single last night about 15 feet and sent the Farmer’s kid a text. He runs a wheeler up the next morning and drags them to their resting place! Most properties I just gotta get them to some thick stuff. I do have a couple properties where I have agreed to remove them. Not terrible drags.
