ATF Form 4 Wait Times.

I couldn't help myself, so when Capitol Armory sent me a 15% off coupon I acted impulsively and pulled the trigger on a Diligent Defense Road Hunter and an Enticer-S. Started the process late Thursday afternoon and just received approval a few minutes ago.
I went through the form 4 process because I don't trust the ATF or congress enough to believe that suppressors won't be regulated into the abyss just as soon as they can do it.
I'm thinking about going out and getting one via the 4473 route which I can now do legally in Idaho, but I'm super skeptical about the whole thing at this point.
Anyway, I thought I'd throw it out there that the form 4 route is still working really fast.

4473 works just fine. Bought two from hawktech in Meriden. Don’t have to worry about trusting the atf. On a 4473 they don’t know what your buying
yes they do, you have to list all the info about the item including serial number.

you never bought a gun, have you

He's referring to the 4473 not being sent to the ATF. The only way they access it is if they show up to the FFL where it was purchased and pull the filed paperwork. Not sure how the NICS check works but here in PA we have PICS. Same concept but its through the PSP. So PSP would theoretically be "aware" of what you purchase but not the Feds.

I purchased a Otter Creek Labs Titanium 22 can a few weeks ago from a local shop. I filed with a trust and was approved in 3 days. Filed Saturday or Sunday, approved Wednesday. I dont believe they work weekends.

Correct, I misspoke a little and the basement dwellers crawled out. The NICS check has no idea what your buying, the atf would need to do an audit of sales of tens of thousands to find all the suppressor sales your paranoid about. Betting I’ll be low on the list for that massive operation of 180ing from the press release they put out.

If your in a free state, don’t bother with dealers still running form 4 process

Apparently more then you since you have no idea how the process on the other side of the counter works

Ok not a basement dweller but your right on the NICS process they absolutely have no idea outside of rifle, pistol, other.. yeah I've been on both side of the counter (like many on here as well, and a lot has changed since I stopped being the "other side'). Here in lies the "but" automated 4473's, and here I don't know enough to speak with great authority. But, could they be reviewed remotely?? maybe?? maybe not depends on the software company (vendor) that the FFL is using. Not for sure and really nothing to get absolutely all wrap up in .
Hard paper forms yes they physically have to show up and go through every form to find on. Electronic I'm not so sure of.
But honestly what actual difference does it make either Form 4 or form 4473 if it's done legally as prescribed? nothing, if it's legal it's legal.
Is it wrong to be paranoid? I don't think so. For everyone that is that way well it's not that they are , But it what has the Feds done present, future, or in the past to make them feel that way. We all get a little carried away expressing our viewpoint on such topics. Do I personally have absolute trust in our agencies, no I don't as a rule, yet like a vast majority I want to have that trust.

The point is not to argue your point but to actually reinforce /agree with what you have stated "it's a Hard Lift" on the agencies part to track them down either way. But do I "think" they could? yes. But it has been that way for decades not just this topic but any relating to firearms sales. And quite honestly just felt like joining in with a view point or two. I was glad to see them flip back to the old method of the 4473 record keeping and allowing destruction after 20 years ( hopefully, I read that right on the last proposed ruling that finalized)

Now I've weighed in with my opinion and my preferred method I think clearly enough and pretty much explained why I feel the way I do. But at the end of the day if it's legal at the time of sale then it's legal. Be it form 4 or 4473. Pick your method it's basically just like insurance... picking is a personal choice .

Oh I trust our government as far as I can throw them. I also don’t believe that me making a legal purchase from an ffl will trigger a direct flight of black helicopters to meridian Idaho from DC to pull physical papers from a dealer to then kick down my door and drag me away. But, I suppose it’s fun to talk about in the internet from one’s basement.

It is funny some of these guys think that the minute you fill out a piece of paper there’s an actual person somewhere in atf looking at exactly what you just bought and who you are.
