Frustrated in Finding Night Lights for Hunting: Help!

I am relatively new at this game. I bought a Coon Hunters Favorite last year from Nite Lite...battery pack, hat, retrostat, etc. and it was so dull I returned it. My $20 WalMart headlamp on the red setting was just as bright, light, and much cheaper, and lasted the few hours I was out hunting at night.

I liked an 80 lumen flashlight with a red cover much better but it only lasts on hour and the batteries are over ten bucks.

I really like the Lightforce as it is bright and attaches to shotgun, bow, or rifle, but it is overpriced...never goes on sale and guys have told me it is not well made.

I see Primos has a new gun light for around $100? I also talked to the folks at Nite Lite and they said if I bought their "Hot Lite Pro" headlamp that it would be brighter than the Coon Hunters I had from them but they are not able to tell me how bright each of their lights are...crazy...how is a guy supposed to make a good decision if he doesn't even know how bright their lights are....

I'm frustrated...can anyone help? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If either of you fellas are still interested let me know. I had another member of this forum help me build one because I thought the light force was WAY WAY TOO expensive.

I now have moved to Idaho and it is illegal to night hunt. It was used 1 time during testing for 30 minutes and is a 2 million power spotlight with red, amber and blue lense covers. It attaches to the scope and also has a wired in on and off switch on it that can be mounted to the rifle. I will make you a great deal. I only want out of it what I have paid for all the parts and shipping. It also has the proper rechargable battery that I would sell with it. I have pics and a video of how we have it set up and would be happy to send you a PM with those pics and the video.

PM me if you are interested. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have one of the primos lights that clamp on your scope and it is not too bad but not that great. It will shine about 65 yards when the package says 100. Not sure which one you are looking at but there is about 4 or 5 different models. Not bad for 50 bucks, I would just carry a small flashlight to keep from wearing batteries down, or another battery.

There are tons of lights for coon hunters that would fill the bill just fine IMO stay away from nite lite they are not all that. I use a moonshiner light 21 volt for coons and gonna try it for coyotes this season but it will only run for bout 12 hours on the low side . You can check out moonshiner lights , blaser, bandit, valley creek hunting supply or just type in coon hunting lights on a search engine most are light and will give ya all the light you will need. there are different pop covers for the head piece in red , blue , yellow . the light that I use weighs two and a half pounds for the battery. shoot me a pm and I can give ya some moore info on lights if ya want.

I forgot that nitelite sells a barrel clip that will allow you to use the head piece on the barrel instead of wearing it on your head

I use the 250 yd optronics light.i use a 12v motorcycle battery with mine and that works pretty good for me.

Primos 350 NightBlaster. I have tried so many contraptions that I must have spent 200$ already! It does not go 350 yards but that does not matter to me. I live in NJ where 75 yard shots are long shots. I think you get animals closer at night anyhow. I would say 150 yards to 200 yards max is the range of this light. I had a 2 million candle power with red lense cover but it took one to hold the light and one to shoot. If you are not in tune with each other you never get a shot. All the $$$ I spend to get out there whats another 120$.

VAHTR...pm sent.

Oilman...what part of NJ you from? I'm in Eastern PA and might be close. Are you recommending the Primos 350 NightBlaster? Does it have a shotgun mount? How long does it burn? How do you charge it? Did you pay around $130?

Anybody have an idea what the candlepower or lumens is from the Primos lights?

Magoo 5...can you give me a link to that light? How much does the whole package weigh?

Here is something you guys can think about. I have purchaced one of these (now 2) and I am absolutely amazed at their performance. They say 295 to 300 lumen's. I can fully identify my black lab at 100 yards when using either the clear or yellow filters. I can Identify him at 60+ with the red filter. I can see his eyes at 100 plus with the red filter. further with the other filters and clear. The light is well made. It is made in China.

I also bought 4 of these.

It will also run on regular 3 volt lithium's. The light maintains full power till just before it goes out.

Also you can mount it to any barrel with these.

This light is brighter and fore focused than any Nite Light or any other cap light I have used. You also do not have to carry a 4 to 7 lb battery with a cord attached to your gun.

Oh one other thing should you go for this the charger that comes with the flash light is not polarity protected be sure to put the batteries in the way it shows on the little unit. I learned the hard way. Had to get another charger DUH!

seekingtrad deer, I am from northern NJ originally from Cresco PA . I would travel back to PA because of liberal season (open always) on coyote. NJ only gives jan and feb for fox and coyote. I hunted echo farms hunt club for years in pa 4000 acres now I hunt 200 hundred. Boy do I miss PA

Primos bought the Optronics lights and almost doubled their prices for the same light. Here is the light on Primos:

I just found a guy who still had one for sale when it was an optronics and paid half the Primos price...what a jip.

I don't have to many good things to say about primos so I won't say anything /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif and I do share your same frustrations with Nite Lite. I was actually satisfied with my "Coon Hunters Favorite 2" but wanted to upgrade and I got the same response. No one could even give me a rough comparison. The halogen bulbs the sell do make quite a differance and so far thats what I'm stcuk with but I plan on shopping around soon. If I get anything good I'll make sure I'll post it here.

Anything more than 100,000 Candler power at long range is a waste. If you are shooting less than 150 yards, the 50,000 candle power is plenty adequate. Red lens is the only color to use if it is legal, night vision animals simply can't see it at all.

Good luck!
