This is the one I got:

What are the differences depending on where you get them? I'd think a scout is a scout and a patriot is a patriot? I have a Walmart and a TSC 10 minutes from my house, but I don't remember seeing any safes in the TSC here.

One of my safes is a Cannon model that I purchased some 30 years ago when I was in college at Oklahoma and it hasn't let me down the 1st or the 2nd time.

I will start by saying that any safe is better than no safe. My safe is like the lesser model being shown in this video. And I still think it was a descent buy for the money. That said, I wish I had seen this video before purchasing.

If someone brings tools to your house so they can get into your safe, very good chance that you know them and they've been there before.

Thanks for the great info. I called Cannon and they said that all the safes coming out of the factory are the same, some have different stickers depending on the company buying them. The lady said she could cross check any model and compare it to one on their webpage.

So how is it that one safe is rated for 1200F/30 minutes and another is rated at 1200F/60 minutes? Why are some Cannon safes $2000 and others of the same size are $800?

I think you talked to an intern....

BTW wisconsinteacher, not ripping on you at all. I did a lot of research before I bought my safe though and know that not every Cannon safe is the same. I'm ripping on the Cannon spokesperson you talked to, that's all.

I think they're saying a scout at store A and a scout at store B will be the same. Same as a patriot at store A and patriot at store B will be the same. They aren't saying a scout and a patriot are the same thing as they obviously are not.

I've been looking at the patriot line and depending on the store selling it, the lower logo on the front isn't always the same. Spec. wise they would be, just a different picture on the front. They aren't going to make a different model patriot with different specs for every vendor selling them.

kpkiefer, is correct. What I meant was that the Scout series A and B are the same and the Patriot A are the same as Patriot B. The Scout and Patriot are NOT the same. Sorry I didn't make that last post clear.

Well after doing a lot of reading last night, I am really confused. From what I was reading it is simple. A hot fire will toast most safes that are on the market. Also, with enough time and the right tools, you can get into a safe. With that, I am still thinking a safe would be good to have because it would keep kids and the local thug out of my stuff. Am I off on my thinking?
