Spotlight w/cord?

Im having a little trouble finding a spotlight that has all the features that I want.

Brinkman discontinued the "Varmint Special". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
(Best light they had imo.)

But Im looking for a light that has a "straight" cord (8 foot or so), cigarrete plug, 400,000 cp max, and a brand that has replacment gadgetts for.

If it isnt a problem, please list a link so I can view them. Thanks

Tommy,I took one of my million candle Q-beams and put a sealed beam in it like Neff Quail talked about and then took out the switch that came on it and put a heavy duty toggle switch in its place , (it fits really well) and then rewired it with an old extension cord I had . That way you you can make it as long as you want and it's strait.then you will have done away with that wimpy wire thats on that that switch and you've got a light with "MORE POWER OWWWOOOOOOOOWWW!"

Thanks for the info Ray. I just purchased a light from cabelas before I seen your post. I was looking for the Brinkman website but couldnt find it.

Now Ive canceled my cabelas order and went to Brinkman and they say 2-3 weeks shipping. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif No other shipping.

So now Im going back to cabelas to reorder.

Reaper, sounds like a good idea. Does your light draw more juice? I found a Light from cabelas that is 1.5mcp, it comes w/ a 10 foot straight cord. And a trigger switch.

Didnt like the 1.5mcp but Ive held a 1.5mcp to my 200,000cp and couldnt tell any difference.

Tommy- Here's a light that is worth looking into:
http://www.able2products.com/08.0335.htm

I use them exclusively for deer spotlight census counts. The 100,000cp light will shine eyes farther than you can shoot them, and the bulbs can be purchased at almost any auto parts store. We use them because when you are doing 15 miles of spotlight line running 2 lights you can't use million cp lights without draining a truck battery even while your driving it. These light work extremely well, and only occasionally burn the bulbs. They have all of the features that you want. You can get the red lenses for them too.

Tommy,
That is what they said the shipping would take on mine and I had it in 3-4 days.It might be a little bit different with the Christmas season.I was really surprised when mine showed up.

Tommy- you won't be sorry with a SHO-ME light by able2products. They are very durable, and don't be fooled by the cp rating. It's all they light you'll need. You can get it with a 12 foot cord if you need it.

Tommy,

Why don't you just take the cheap cord that is on your spotlight and replace it with a straight extension cord cut off to the length that you want. Then go to a sheetmetal shop and get them to make you a hood to go on the front of it . Call me if you need more help.

Welcome to the board Gary!! Guys, Gary is a very good friend of mine and an avid caller.(not to mention one of the best shooters I know) His knowledge will be an asset to our board...glad to have you here Gary...... Randy

Tommy Like Reaper was talking about. If you have a Q-Beam light now go to the Brinkmann Corp web site and order a sealed beam 400,000 Cp replacement bulb don`t get the NO Glare version just plain bulb and it will fit all the brinkmann Q=beam spotlights and PG is right it only takes about week to week and half on your orders from them. Then go to Home Depot to the electrical department and they have rolls of extension cord wire and you can get what you want I prefer the 14g watersealed 2-wire black.

Or you can come by the house and i will give you the 200,000 cp that was in my varmint special its already painted red to.

Sorry so late on the reply guys. I was in East Texas doing a little visiting/calling. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hey Gary you finally found us. Or did you? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

David If youve got one collecting dust, let me know what you want for it and I'll be there. Ive had too many spotlights take a crap on me. So the more the better. Let me know.

YH, I was in Canton,(between Dallas and Tyler).

Its pretty country, but too populated. My father-in-law lives out in the boonies or as boonie as you can get in East Texas, and is by 2 sections of woods/ open pasture and is neighbored by people all around. We could here them at night but had no luck with any daytime hunting.

Tommy - I read your post about Brinkmann discontinuing the Varmint Special and called them this morning. They told me at the order number in Dallas that they had them in stock and had no plans of discontinuing them. Just to be on the safe side I ordered another one anyway. Give them another call.

Eddie sorry to make you buy another light.

I spoke with a lady from a trapping site and she said that they had discontinued. I went to Brinkmans website and they are still offering them. (Didnt know their site name at the time)

Soooooo.... That means some lady isnt up on her info.

Tommy, call me at 686-9740. Was in Big Springs this morning at Dibrells sporting goods and noticed they had 5 or 6 replacement bulbs on the shelf for the Varmint special didn`t catch a price though.

Does the bulb on the varmit special get hot? I have a Sho-Me light that I like, but the bulb is a sealed beam. The bulb itself is like an old car headlight and it gets fairly hot. I contacted them at the website that I posted earlier for Sho-me. They said that putting a red lens on that light would melt it. They offer the lens, but it is for a 35,000 cp flashing light. Mine is the 100,000 cp. My question is: If the varmit special is a sealed beam like the Sho-Me, how come it does not melt the filter?

Yellowhammer the Varmint Special is a sealed beam. It does not take the small replacement bulb.

The light does get warm but not enough to melt or even soften the plastic filter. If you're having problems with your light getting to hot it sounds like something is terribaly wrong. Does your cord get warm?

If so you may have too big of a fuse in your fuse block. May look at that or if everything checks out ok try some Dykem.

A light getting to that extreme temp. sounds like too much amperage being pulled from the light.

Hope this helps.

No the cord does not get hot. I have not tried a red lens yet so I don't know if it will melt. But, when I called to order a lens for it from their website the guy told me it would melt one. I guess I go ahead and order a couple and see how they work. They are less than $3. If it melts them I many use the dykem. I hate to buy a Varmit special for $40 when I already have a light. I also have the MaxMillion with red lens. Thanks for the info.
