1 of 2 Coyote day

Got to the farm and, with the west wind, I set up on the far eastern end of the property so I could do two stands on this farm. The first stand, on the extreme east end, produced nothing. I picked up my gear and walked about 400 yards to the far west end of the property for my second stand. I settled in at 2:45 p.m.

I started playing a dying rabbit sound, and after a few minutes a coyote stepped out to my extreme right, about 30 yards away. It entered the field and stared straight at me. Of course, I had to move to get into position. It started trotting and almost immediately jumped back into the bush, leaving me with no shot.

I played a pup distress sound, hoping it would come back into the field, but no luck. I decided to shut the call off and wait ten minutes before starting it again with a different dying rabbit sound.

Five minutes later, another coyote came into the field at the exact same spot as the first one. Same deal—it stared straight at me (maybe it was the same coyote?), decided it didn’t like me, and started trotting away. This time I got on him and took the shot… missing. Now he had the afterburners kicking in. I followed him through my scope—up, down, up, down, up down, up then bang. He slid a bit and tried to get up, but I put a quick follow-up shot on him.

I checked my time and it was just after 3:00 p.m. I stayed another 30 minutes, but nothing else showed up. This guy had the start of mange as well :(
