10/.17 By Ruger (Fact or Fiction)

I've been told by more than one sporting arms retailer that Ruger has plans to introduce a 10/.17 in the very near future. One of them even said it's listed in the Ruger catelog. Then another retailer said, "No, there are no plans for this caliber in the 10/22 configuration." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Can anyone with "insider knowledge" tell me the true story about this rifle. If this semi-auto becomes a reality, I'm going to buy one immediately. But I don't really want to chase all over Oregon looking for something that doesn't and never will exist. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Can anyone help? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

I would like to put my name on that 10/.17 list also! They are probably going to run around $450 to $500 a copy. Just a wild guess.

Do you know of any other .17 HMR semi-auto?

No insider information on the Ruger 10/17 but personally I doubt if you will ever see one. Same for the 10/17m2, apparently Ruger doesn't feel comfortable with their action and the additional pressures involved.

You can build your own 10/17 from a 10/22 mag action.

Volquartzen and Remington make 17hmr semi-autos!

Thanks for the information. I think they must be having trouble with the action or some other technical feature because as one member said, "they have pulled the info off their website."

Darn it! I would really like to consolidate my small bore rifle collection into one 10/.17. But it appears this is not going to happen.

Dejected in Portland,

Rusty

YEP !!

Remington 597 is available in .17HMR, .22WRM, and .22LR. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just got home from shopping for my sons BD present. I got him a 10/22 ruger Carbine. While at the bass pro shop in Shreveport LA, I looked at a lot of guns. I am allmost positive that I saw a 10/17 on the shelf. I am holding the instruction maunal in my hands right now and it is a manual that covers the 10/22 carbine, 10/22 rifle and the 10/17 Rifle. all three are on the front cover. I will try to get back there tomorrow and see if I actually saw the 10/17.

I was at a Scheels yesterday and they had either a 10/17hmr or a 10/17 mag on the wall.I have seen them on the shelves every time I was in there. Maybe they got an early shipment and have some left.

I also know they have had the 10/17's on shooting USA on the OLN channel.

Isn't the problem with the action that you need to have a heavier cocking handle to offset the extra recoil? Or did they find a weak link that didn't hold up over the long run?

Randy, if a factory 10/17 was a reality, those at RFC would have been thrilled, but it's not, unfortunetly. There are conversion barrels for the 10/22M by Voquartzen and Butler Creek available, that's the only way to make one that I've seen.

I got thinking about the fact that they may have been in store conversions too and that makes sense. that store has always had butler creek heavy barrel and aftermarket stock conversions so they probably did the 17 conversion in house too.

The ones that Sam mentioned are available. As for the Ruger 10-17, I have been waiting for one for over a year now and it has not showed. They are suppose to be producing one but have other projects going as of now. Will post more on this later.

I have seen it listed in the Wal-Mart gun ordering catalogs for $385. I was debating between a 10/17 and a 77/17. Chose the 77 because if I had the 10/17 I know I would have to shoot it as fast as I could. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have never seen one though. Joey

I went back to see. There was a Rem 597 in HMR and a Ruger 77 HMR. There was no 10/77 The manual I have does have 10/17 instructions in it. I guess they printed the manuals in anticipation of getting them out soon.
