Hey guys, I am looking for some good loads for my G20 in 10 MM for hunting and to carry in bear country. What have you had good luck with thats hot and still shoots straight??

Still working on mine. I have some 800x left over from some
small more shotgun loading. A pain to meter, so I will weigh
charges, but that is my starting point powder. I have Blue Dot,
and Longshot, in my powder locker, but it looks like AA-9 would
be the next choice after 800x. What weight bullet are you
considering? I am working with 180 gr. XTP.

Squeeze I was thinking about the 180 grain or 200 grain stuff.....I want something with some mass incase I ever do have to shoot a bear so if it kills bears, everything else will be childsplay! I hear great stuff about the XTPs and was also looking at golddots and winchester SXTs?

Kino,

I just picked 180 gr. XTPs because I use them in other pistols,
for Self Defense ammo. One would have to do side by side
comparisons, in ballistic gelatin to really see which bullet
may perform better. Also bullets should be launched at max.
safe pressure for max. velocity, to maximize bullet
preformance. There are good arguments that plain old solid
jacketed bullets penetrate better than jacketed hollow
points. So one of the reasons I went with 180 gr. HP bullets
is I also load 180 gr. round shoulder flat point plated
bullets. If my concern is bear, where I need more
penetration, I can develop loads for both bullets, and
mix them in a mag, and get both deeper penetration, and max.
tissue damage, out of the same mag. My main reason for this
pistol is wolf protection, when I am upland bird hunting with
my dog, in wolf country. So for wolf defense, I will stick
with all XTP loads.

Last night I started developing a load with the 180 gr. XTP,
IMR-800x powder, Rem 2 1/2 primer, and Starline brass. My
Chrony didn't want to cooperate, so I couldn't get a velocity
reading I believed, but inspection of the brass cases show
I am still in the safe pressure range. Launching 10mm Auto
full power loads in the Glock 20 is a real power trip! What
a hand cannon. And it sure flings brass, compared to my
mild practice loads. I did get the practice loads to
Chrony, and they were poking along at 950-960 fps. The one
reading I did get with the full power loads displayed 1666 fps.
I love it when my Chrony lies to me.
