.17 cal vmaxs

I have shot 9 coyotes with 20 grain vmaxs, about half needed a finishing shot, the others ran 75 ish yards and dumped over dead. its not a combo I would use on purpose, its just what I had in my hands at the time. highly NOT recommended. pretty much anything should be better. I have some 25 grain hornady HP's but they shoot a different POI and I can't get away from the 20's performance on smaller varmints, so if the 17 fireball is in my hands, I will probably continue to shoot the errant coyote with 20's but its only because of that.

I'm shooting the .17-5.56 KAK as well. I have been using the Hornady 25 grain HPs for coyotes/badgers and lighter projectiles for other varmints. The 25 grain HPs are discontinued, but can be found at gun shows and online sometimes. I have used the 20s in my .17 Remington and do not recommend them. If you have to, go with the 25 grain VMax bullets. Btw, Black Hole Bullets make a 30 grain bullet option. However, I don't know if I would use those in this rifle. It would really cut down on the speed. I used some 15.5 grain NTX bullets for night hunting jackrabbits last weekend and the results were fantastic. Badger was 168 yards. Didn't twitch.
