ive been flirting with the idea of ordering a furball, its not that i cant do without just want to try one i have a cz 527 varmint in the turkish walnut that shoots as good as i can shoot it both rounds are interesting i wont be without a 17 remington if i have anything to do about it its just like shooting a lazer i will attach a group that i shot with the old cz with factory barrel

i will say that it likes to be cleaned about every 15 shots though some say it is because the powder im loading in it either way you should enjoy both Ron

I've also been shooting the 17's for about 15 yrs. or so. My go-to fur gun these days is an XP-100 handgun in 17 Fireball that used to be a MIV. Been doing some PD shooting lately with the rig and have had some luck with it on 1st-shot connections to about 450 or so in good conditions using the 25 gr. Hornady at about 3450 out of it's 16.75" barrel. Will be doing some load development with the 25 V-Max this Sunday in anticipation of jackrabbit sniping and coyotes. Groups are starting to open up these days tho. and i'll be rebarreling it shortly. Have been using H + IMR 4198's in the rig with excellent accuracy up to this point. I was using various 30's for coyotes to about 300 yds. or so with good results.

It's tough to get .17 caliber bullet holes touching.

Oh, C'mon Dave! My Rem 700 will on occasion cluster 5 all together. It seems like you were out at the range once when it did it, wernt you?

Both of my last two 17 Remmys would do that with a diet of 23 grains of Varget pushing along a 20 grain Vmax. I dare say that plenty good enough. Did you ever try that load in your gun? I dont remember.

Rusty, Yes I've tried varget in mine..not until i decided to try 30 grainer's though.

It work's just fine 21-22 grain's group in the 5's to 7's i'm good with that.

Yes you did put a nice cluster group or two together, when i shot with ya..

That's a good looking & good shooting 17 remmy that you have /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Mine (mdl 700 SF) likes 18.8 grs of b'mark and 25gr hdy hp's

have some 20gr hdy's to try out

fur season is here and the FB just aint cutting it yet so It will be one more season with the Encore in 204

As an aside here has anybody tested the Hornady's reported BC of .230 for the 25 V-Max? Don't need to split hairs here, but is it close enuf for accurate calcs. to 500 +/-.

It depends on how you "calc".

The different bullet makers use different methods to derive their BC numbers.

The numbers may look close, but not mean the same thing.

Hornady BC numbers typically run lower than Sierra's for bullets that fly the same or even faster/flatter down range.
