17 HMR, 20 gr bullet and coyotes at under 100 yda ?

I've shot roughly 10 dogs with a 17 hmr 17gr and 3 hogs and also 1 dog at 220 yards with a 17 wsm with a 25 gr bullet, hit him center neck looking at me. All the dogs with the hmr were from 50 to 200 yards with headshots minus one with a neck shot at about 150. The 3 hogs were just a test to see if I could kill a mature boar with an hmr and it did no problem 80 - 150 yards headshots.

I don't see why anyone would shoot a coyote with a 17 hmr unless it was the only rifle they had and didn't have the means to acquire a larger adequate round.

I am having a 17 Fireball built on a Ruger #1 action with a Lilja Ruger varmint profile barrel. My plans are to shoot 25 and 30 Br bullets.

The Ruger #1 sounds interesting. Who will be doing your work? I have two #1's, one in .243 and the other a .218 Bee.

6mm06:

The work will be don by Penrod Precision who came highly recommended by several #1 folks.

Lilja barrel and squaring the block as well as 1.75 trigger. Should be a shooter and fun.. Right now I am scope shopping. Since this will be a 300 and in rifle I am looking at 2.5-10x50 or 3-9x50 with elevated exposed target/Tactical turrets. I normally go straight to Leupold, Kahles, Night force etc. but thought since this is a bit of a closer working scope I might drop back a notch or two. Found two I like a Weaver Kaspa 2.5-10x50 side focus Mil Dot and reticle illumination and a Redfield Revolution TAC-MOA 3-9x40 Mil Dot. No decision as yet still looking.

Here is a pic of the donor/parent gun:

Has a Hart SS 22-250 barrel with break currently installed which will be removed for a Lilja Ruger Varmint profile barrel 1:9 twist as I am looking to shoot 25 and 30 gr bullets. The wood on this one aint to bad. I am excited about this build. It is my first foray into the "Lil Guns".......

Thanks Huntschool. I am interested in seeing and hearing about your new project once you get it all done. Be sure to post it.

I have a #1A in .243 that I have considered rebarreling to another caliber but have just never got around to seriously looking at it or finding a competent gunsmith to do the work.

Does Penrod have a website? I did a Google search and didn't find one, just info about him. Maybe I didn't look enough.
