.17 HMR bullets

Hello all. I have a .17HMR and love it as almost everyone who owns one does. I wish they made a bullet that is 17 grains, but of solid point design. Copper coated would be even better. If anyone knows that this is already made, please respond. Thanks-- Rob

CCI Ammunition already has them out....

I believe either www.midwayusa.com or midsouth shooters supply has them for sale

I heard they penetrate water filled milkjugs pretty violently and pass through a respectable amount.

They only have the FMJ and game points (made to mushroom like a big game bullet) in the 20 grain...not in the 17gr...at least from what I have seen.

I was wondering about that also????

It would be worthless for killing unless you hit big bone and then it would ruin fur.

It would be good for ricochets though.

Jack, we cant wait for an FMJ in hmr, over here in the uk. You see, expanding ammunition is a variation on your license, and you have to have good reason for possesing it, eg, vermin control, therefore, target shooters cant have it, as target shooting, is not "good reason" for possesing expanding ammo such as v-max, hollowpoint etc.Once it comes out in fmj, we will be able to use it as a target round. I have one for vermin anyway, but some folks purely shoot targets, so will never get the variation for expanding.

It could make for a good squirrel round. A body hit with the .17 on a squirrel pretty much ruins the meat. I try for head shots but sometimes I miss!!

I want a round that is more meat friendly than what is currently offered. Squirrels and rabbits mainly. I was taught to head shoot only on these and will no deviatel. To switch to 20gr. slugs takes some of the advantage of the .17 HMR away. It has to be possible to load a .17HMR at full velocity and make it more meat friendly.
