17 hmr scope

Needs some advice on a nice 17 hmr scope for a cz455. Will be shooting gophers and fox. Like to keep the price under $400.

I'm thrifty..well, old and cheap. I run Simmons WTC 6.5-20X w/AO on several of my rifles including CZ 452 Varmint in .17 HMR..has a BIG objective and used a BKL #261 1-piece ring/mount.

Just an old trigger puller, paper puncher and annual PD shooter I'm happy. Can usually find on sale for

I have a nikon prostaff 3-9x40 on my savage 17hmr. Only 150 bucks or so. You might want to upgrade a bit. I like it though. Bought a second one for my 222. Painted it.

I found the BDC caliber specific reticles useless after I learned my rifle likes the 20gr. Gamepoints and not the popular 17gr. v-max. All the drops were off at longer ranges. Get something clear and in the power range you like and run with it. My experience has shown that wind will be your biggest enemy and will humble your capabilities quicker than your scope.

How large of a scope are you looking for? Mueller Optics has a few good options with mil-dot in the higher power range: Mueller Tactical Scopes.

Vortex Viper's are very nice scopes as well with Japanese glass. For the money, they would be hard to beat in your price range: Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 w/ Mil Dot. I too don't see the point in having a caliber/bullet specific BDC as there are too many variables for the manufacturer to accurately fit everyone's needs, altitude, load data, etc. You'll still be figuring out dope regardless if it's a caliber specific BDC or not.
