17 hmr - will it become obselete?

No war here my friend.

But for the sake of discussion-

[quote- I said flatter not faster]

1.If we fire the same bullet at a different velocity will faster not always be flatter? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
If so-Then

2. If max load for a given bullet is faster for the 300WM than the 300WSM it follows that the 300WM will be flatter does it not? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A factory load from Winchester does not apply here in that it is simply a hotter load.

As you suggested check max loads for each using the same bullet in you’re reloading manuals & get back to me.
I think we will find they are very close with the WM
winning.

I absloutely agree with your statements, and do not dispute those at all...

The reason I used factory loads is that, while many of us here reload, most of the gun buying public does not. When most buy a rifle, they use factory ballistics tables to help them choose the caliber they want. Factory loads show that the WSM's are faster and have better trajectories. That is why I think we will have most of the WSM's for years to come.

BTW I'm picking up a new .17 HMR this weekend, so I sure hope they don't become obsolete, but I'm not worried about that too much. I wonder how much of the .22 market that they have taken away so far.
