17 HMR

I have the Marlin 917V and like it a lot. Shoots sub moa with Federal VShok ammo with a fixed 4X scope on it.

Like Wrongtarget, I experienced feeding problems with the magazine. I never bothered to correct it cause the Fed Vshok feeds just fine while the other brands don't. Go figger!

In mine, the Hornady 20 gr ammos shoots almost as good as the Vshok but not quite. The CCI with the 17 gr TNT bullets do about 2.5 moa on the same day and target.

At first, mine would string vertically due to torque applied to the action screws. I took it apart to glass bed it but in the process decided to shim between the stock and the action/barrel at the front action screw. They have a mounting stud on a dovetail up there and i cut a cereal box shim with a hole in the center to surround the stud and provide a spacer in front, behind and all the way up the sides. Worked great, no more vertical stringing!!

I have shot my friends Savage with stainless bull barrel and it shoots about the same as the Marlin with the bull barrel so I'd say either one is a good choice.

Two summers ago there were no 917VS to be had, so I bought the only 917V on inventory anywhere. Coudn't be happier. (As long as I don't look at it. As plain as Jane can get.)

Had the feeding problem as well. Just bent the thingy till it worked right.

Mine likes Hornady 17 Vmax. 5 into 3/4 at 100. A plus for the Marlin over Savage is that the clip holds 7 rounds vs 5. In a prairie dog town that do make a difference!

I've taken the stock and action apart many times fooling with the trigger and other stuff. This gun returns exactly to zero every single time.

I have the Marlin 17HMR. I have the bullbarrel, paid 198+tax at WalMart. I have a 3-9x40 Simmons I paid 30 bucks for on sale. It is deadly. I have noticed the afor mentioned feeding problem with the magazine. What is the deal with that?

I'm a newbie here but have been lurking for awhile. The Savage 93 w/accutrigger is not available yet and my FFL had a conversation w/his distributor who talked to Savage yesterday. The story from Savage is 93's w/accutrigger available Mar.-April 06 and the thumbhole model not till June. The accutrigger will not be able to be retrofitted to an older 93. Dale

i thought they were all ready available with the accu- trigger I dont know if I can wait that long for it lol /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I did too, just bought one that the FFL said was coming w/the new trigger and it didn't. That's the only reason I found out the bad news. I guess I'll try the new SSS trigger on it.

I just saw that Bushnell is making a Banner with the BDC for 17 HMR for around $90.00. I would purchase that scope over the BSA any day. I have had very good luck with Bushnell. Very skeptical about BSA's.

i have the model 917vs. i like mine alot. shot everything from jack rabbits to bobcats with it and it works great. i shoot the 17gr. V-max. i've shot rabbits at 100-150 yards and it works great. at 100 yards you can take 5 shots and cover them with a quarter. i have a bushnell 3-9X40. works perfect!

I bought a Marlin 22mag this past spring, and I found that It too has a problem with feeding the rounds. It is a 12 shot tube, but the screw on the bottom of the reciever works it's way loose after so many rounds and misalligns the tube with the reciever and it won't chamber a round once the scew gets loose enough. Must be a Marlin thing??

Rattler I've seen the Savage website and agree they show them, but the problem is they are not available as of yet. The story I heard was mar/aprl 06 for most models and june for the thumbhole model all w/accutrigger. Kinda like the Ruger website w/the 10/17 it was on their site for awhile then disappeared. Dale

I wa thinking of a .17 HMR also, instead of using my .22 mag. Then I thought, what if I want to take 150 yard+ shots?
I am getting a .223!!! Ammo is reasonable, and I still have the .22 mag for closer range.

I went to the gun shop today and bought a savage 93r17 gv. I know I originally planned on getting the r17 bvss, But I compared the two and found that the only difference was the stainless barrel and laminated stock. The GV has a blued bull barrel, and walnut stock. Both guns came with the accu-trigger. The GV cost $100 less than the bvss; so I thought, If those are the only differences I'll go with the GV and have enough money left over to get the sweet 17 scope. So here I am waiting for morning when I can try it out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

i bought the sav. 93 w/ wood stock and put a paint job on it , the wood wasnt really that impressive . whats impressive is the accuracy of it. i shoot the 17gr. hornady v-max and the 20gr. xtp's under an inch at 100yds. all day. mine has the bull barrel, and i put a mueller scope on it.

I feel like such an idiot, I bought the wrong scope rings. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif I have to go back to Whittaker's to exchange them, and it's an hour and a half drive. Now I probably won't have time to shoot today. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
