I too prefer to use a shotgun anymore. I use the cheap, 21 count 2 3/4" 4 buck loads instead of the traditional and more expensive 27 count loads. For choke I use full. That the choke that patterned best in my gun.

Fur buyers don't gripe about shotgunned fur unless you really "rake" the heck outta the fur by using too small of shot. Stay with low count 4 buck and avoid the turkey and goose loads some folk recommend and you will be fine. Use lot's of small shot and you're fur will look like crap.

They are real easy to kill 22lr works great 17hmr ,the new 17wsm or 22mag will all work of coarse. If you want to buy that new rifle then go for it watched a few video's of the 17wsm it thumps pdogs real good.

I hunt mostly with a buddy and his daughter, I'm the only one of the 3 that carries a shotgun so I let them have the good still shots. But in general, I'd use a shotgun for any shot that presents itself.

I've patterned both S&B and Royal low count loads, the Royal won. Stocked up shortly after for $2 per 5.
