I would like to hear some people's opinions on 1911, the kimber 1911 in general. I have been wanting one for a while now and i finally got my "stash" big enough to purchase one. Originally i was looking to buy a les baer but a buddy of mine that has a kimber gold match recommended that i check out the kimbers. He says that i can get as good a quality a save a couple hundred bucks for ammo. The Kimber that caught my eye was the kimber raptor blued. Thanks.

I have the desert warrior and like it better than all the others I have had.In fact I sold my colts,Springfield's and all and just kept this one.It was tight when I first got it new and I thought I had a lemon but after shooting it some it never fails,is accurate,I plan to keep it.

Kimber is a solid gun, no real complaints with any of them I've owned/own. I am very often found with a Kimber Tactical Pro .45 ACP stashed on board me. It has proven to be accurate and reliable through many thousands of rounds now.

Just curious, GC. Do you see any signs of wear on the aluminum frame seeing as how you shoot yours a lot? A friend was considering a TP II and asking me how I liked my Kimber. Told him I couldn't say on the aluminum frames, but my Classic Stainless has performed flawlessly.

I have a Kimber Pro Carry 4in in black. I paid around 860 for it including 2 day shipping and FFL charge.

I have shot good ammo, cheap ammo, steel ammo, reloads, and have never found anything this gun doesnt like. I've had the occasional jam during the first 500round break in with the cheaper ammos.

The more I shoot this gun the better she performs. Esp toward the end of the break in it really came alive.

With reloads this gun shot even better!

I have a full size Kimberly tactical and the ultra carry tactical and like them both. I carry the ultra more than the full size because it's easy to conceal.

I had a full size custom stainless II that I carried for almost 5yrs. It was a good gun. Never had a FTF or a FTE the entire time, including when my wife would shoot it with a less than stiffer grip. However, I got ready for a new 1911, in a smaller size so I began to look and read. Ultimaltey I almost bought another Kimber, the Covert and the CDP II were at the top of the list. I did alot of my research on actual 1911 forums and 1911 Competiton forums and the more I read, the more I seen that Kimber wasn't the hometown favorite. The brand STI kept coming up over and over and how good they were. Huge numbers of comp shooters are running them. So, I had to check them out. Called them up and spoke with them for a while. Found out they were made right down the road in Texas, and I loved that! To make a long story short, I ended up buying. STI Guardian and I'm more than happy about it. I carry it every single day on me and in the truck. It's performed flawlessly with no issues.

I'm not trying to steer you away from Kimber, it's the big flashy namebrand 1911 that everyone (new shooters esp) seems to want, myself included. However, take 5 min and visit the STI website and read up on them. You won't be sorry I assure you.

I have a Kimber UltraRaptor and love it. The Ultra is the 3" but it handles and shoots surprisingly well for it's size. I have a friend who has the full size Raptor and IMO it is one sweet 1911. The custom shop Kimbers are built tight and take some breaking in, but they have excellent triggers and are very accurate.

From memory I have about 6,750 rounds through mine and see nothing unusual or worrisome so far. Kimber claims a service life of at least 25,000 rounds.

Kimber is a good choice, I've owned three, sold one. Currently have a Super Carry Pro and a Stainless Target II (10mm). Had extractor problems in the beginning with the Super Carry Pro. However, that was easy to fix and now it is one of my regular carry guns. The 10 is a fantastic shooter and fun.

I would agree with Trevor on the STI. Recently, I go a STI Trojan, 40 S&W in hard chrome. Beautifully made, tight fit, shoots great, etc, etc. It definitely won't be my last STI.

love my ultra carry (5 years now) and my neighbor just picked up a Kimber SS match in 38 super and that's all I've been hearing about ever since (all good).

I have a Kimber Custom II. Absolutely love the gun. I need to get through the break in period because it is tight. But accurate, man it's the most accurate pistol I've ever shot. Unless im completely out of money and my kids are starving to death, this gun will not leave me!!

Thanks, GC. I'm sure frame life depends a lot on the care given and Kimber would go on the safe side as to predictions. Sounds as if frame wear would not be a concern to the average user.

I have a Para 1911. I have always wanted a Kimber, but in my state they are not allowed to be sold. 1911's are my favorite style pistol

I had no idea such a law existed??

What's the logic behind it, if any? It's just the Kimber brand that can't be sold in the state?

There are several states that have an "approved" list of handguns. They have many excuses for excluding certain ones. The bottom line is how much did the company contribute to politicians.

Thanks for all the replies. I checked out the STI website briefly but will have to look into it a little closer. The Ranger 1911 that they have looks pretty good.

I was a bit worried about the aluminum frame also. Ive had my ultra CDP II for 3 years, carry and shoot it almost daily, have never had a single problem with it. No wear marks outside of the ordinary.

Kimber and colt for starters. Although my Para was fine.

I have an alloy frame Kimber and LB.

Somewhere I read that the alloy frame has an expected life of only 20,000 rds, which I find hard to believe. However, saying that, at an average of 500 rds. / year which is about a normal average per gun for me, that's 40 years until I need to start worrying.

Hmmm, at 107 I think I can deal with it!

BTW, I found a used CBOB (Dan Wesson bobtail commander) on Gunbroker that is making its way to Colorado as I type. A commander length 10mm is something I've wanted for quite awhile.
