2-7x32 or 3-9x40 for night time rig?

I am comparing between the Vortex Crossfire 2-7 and 3-9. The scope will go on a CZ 527 which is a pretty small rifle. I want to keep the scope size down for both weight and looks. I will use this on night hunts under the moon.

I have a couple of concerns between the two.

1. Objective bell size vs. night time brightness.
Will a scope with a 40mm Obj Bell set on 3x be brighter than 32mm Obj bell set on 2x? I'm not sure what the exit pupil sizes are, I'm sure that is an important stat in this equation. I'm talking under a full moon for light, no spotlights allowed in WI.

2. FOV
The 3-9s FOV is 14'-41.9' vs the 2-7s 17'-60'. I do like the boost in FOV that the 2x provides over the 3x. My scopes generally stay on the lowest power available.

3. Range of eye relief.
The 3-9 has an eye relief range of 3.2"-3.5". Close together so not much movement of the cheek weld on different powers. The 2-7 has an ERR of 3.2"-4.5".

I guess my decision will be based on these factors. In this order.

If anyone could give some insight my rifle would greatly appreciate a new scope in the near future!

Adam

Heres the links to both scopes in question. Both are pried the same at $109.

I just decided on my scope. 3-9x40 it is. The 3-9 is paralax adjusted at 100yds where as the 2-7 is paralax adjusted at 50 yds.

Simple answer to my difficult question.

My bad I was looking at the rimfire series. The rifle 2-7 is a 100yd paralax setting.

Choosing a scope was one of the hardest things to do.. Like everything else everyone expresses their views and experiences..

I own Leupolds, Meopta, Bushnells, Nikons, Simmons & BSA.

I have had some luck with Most of them but in the night time I always take my Meopta equipped rifle.. they just look too darn good to pass up on. This is the one I use and the 4C dot is also very good..

Meopta R1
3-12x56 Matte 4CDot

I cried once and have had a smile ever since. I have that one mounted on my .257 Weatherby and has not lost zero in about 300 rounds put through it.. Just food for thought Good luck in your hunt for optics.

Adam, I would go w the 40, huntnfish08 nailed it. Low light you need the larger objective, plus it is abetter all around scope so you still max your ops during daylight activities. When I scope shop I look at a few issues: range of caliber and range of scope (power), objective size and overall scope size (don't want a NF 6.5x22 on a walking lightweight rig), of course cost, and keep a constant at least a 40mm. Lately I have thrown one consideration out the windo which is where it is made. I heard Naztec has a great deal on a Weaver right now. good luck. jhg
