2 cycle oil as a diesel additive WOW

hey Tac. 20,

You don't need two tanks to run B100--100% biodiesel, you need two tanks if you want to run WVO--waste vegetable oil. The truck is started on diesel, then after you get warmed up you switch to the other tank that is heated by engine coolant. Some people "blend" their fuel. Blending is using WVO and blending it with kerosene, gasoline, and other various items to lower the viscosity so it will flow through your fuel lines and injectors. Oh, it is also filtered VERY well before it is put in the tank. Check out www.dieselsecret.com. There product is not a necessary component of blending, but they give some OK information. It is very important to have a very good lift pump i.e. FASS or Walbro to use the blends so you keep a good flow of fuel getting to you VP44 injection pump. I have not used any blends yet, but I plan to soon, after I get a FASS system installed on my truck. Or, I may start making biodiesel myself, they say it is not as hard or expensive to get started as you might think.

Oh, one other thing I have heard of people doing is running WCO--waste crankcase oil in their diesels also! Obviously, you would want to filter the heck out of that, too.

bosch says to put autro trans fluid in my 2001 with the bosch injector pump for lube because the new fuel does not lube as well.you need to check on this

The Marvel Mystery Oil will work wonders in an engine gas or diesel...but the caveat is most folks over do it.

We had a 250 gallon tank at home and we added one quart of this per tankful.

On the cummins site they stated that auto trans oil will mess up the injectors because it does not burn up good, it has a high ash content. I filled my tank with 5% soy-diesel, there was a small amount of 2 cycle mix of 1 once to 3 gal left in it. It quietened the engine as much or more than 2 cycle. I checked the mileage with some town driving and most highway, 22mpg, almost all highway and I got 23+ @60mph.
So I got 1 mpg increase on highway with 2 cycle, 2 mpg increase in town. I got 2-3 mpg increase with soy-diesel. In the winter I'll have to run no soy, just the 2 cycle. Sounds like it keeps the fuel from gelling @ -30 and -40 degrees. It is nice to improve the mpg even just a little, my little way "of sticking it to the towel head man" lol.T.20

The catalytic converter is not the problem with additives, it is the particulate filter that the new diesels have. It does however work REAL well in my 02 Cummins, which by the way has no catalytic converter, come to think of it it has no muffler either. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Don't know for sure, but my 2005 Yamaha waverunner has a cat on it and I can't just use any two srtoke oil with that unit. I have to use Yamaha 2W oil with this unit, the 2M would screw up the cat. If you want to use a clean two stroke oil, get the 2W

i have 2001 dodge, and bosch sent a memo to use auto trans fluid 8oz per tank to lube the injector pump.this is because of the new low sulpher fuel. it seems to make it quieter

Or you can run a B2 or higher biodiesel and not worry about needing any lubricity additives from either the refiner or the genie in a bottle.

Hydrotreating (the process of removing the sulfur and aromatics) in ULSD is what takes away some of the lubrication properties common with the old diesel fuel. But the refineries add lubrication agents back in afterwards so it's pretty moot.

But you are certainly free to pour whatever in your tank gives you the warm fuzzies.

ETA: Here's some reading material regarding ULSD:

I have heard about dumping some atf in every other tank full but this is the first i have heard of the oil thing!

careful with the ATF, It will turn your fuel pinkish, the same tint as non-taxed farm fuel. Using farm fuel in trucks on the road is a real no-no. Nasty fines.

I just use the Howes Lubricant in my 00' Cummins. About $13 a bottle and it lasts for 250 gallons. Can't get much cheaper than that. I have been using it for about 3 months now and luving it.

Did the Howes quieten the injectors or pump? I used it a while but don't remember it making it quieter. I don't remember getting better mileage either.T.20

What about Marvel Mystery Oil. Lot's of it has been used in diesels over the years. My Harley, Shovelhead loves the stuff, mileasge wise and it doesn't take much of it to make a differance either.

Mike,

I use that in my '76 shovel as well, along with aviation fuel (100 lo-lead) to mix with the unleaded crap at the pump! Just have to keep an eye on the plugs every once in a while for deposits......

When you have hearing damage, any more quiet is good!lol I consider it a plus to quieten the engine noise, the newer ones can't be heard next to mine before the 2 cycle oil, or 5% soy diesel.T.20
