Went to the lease to fill feeders, change camera batteries to so a little work. Decided to go early th best the 100 heat that was coming. Hogs been hanging around, one being a big boar I wanted to get.
Checked the cell camera when I got there and he was there at 5:18 am. Got in stand about 5:50 but way to dark to see. As it was getting light it was obvious I was going to have a hard time seeing the feeder 140 yards down the hill due to grass and weeds that had grown uo between me and the feeder. Wasn’t long and I could see hogs, but no clear shots so I climbed down to sip uo closer. Got to where I could see a little better and tried to wait for a shot. These were smaller chested and not the big boar I I been wanting, but you have to take what presents itself. I fired the 22 Creedmoor and saw a hog bolt right, but then I could hear a squeal and dust being kicked up. There had been 2 red hogs the one kicking was red, but was facing left when they one I had shot at was facing right. I walked noticed he was smaller than I thought probably about 30 pounds. Then I saw a blood trail going right where I saw the other red hogs run. Sure I enough I found the other red how about 20 yards in the brush so I got 2 with one shot.
I was already sweating just walking then up so took a picture and went to work.
I brought my weed eater so I was able to make it whene I can see the feeders the next time. The plan was to bush hog the lanes on the 29th, but due to the drought and super dry conditions the timber company notified us this week that no bush hogging until the burn ban is lifted. Who know when that will be. I hope it is before the deer season starts on October 3rd.
