2 Million, Too Much?

Got a Brinkmann Qbeam Max Million II Rechargeable. (2M CP) I am seeing mixed reviews on rechargeable, but have only seen recommendations on 1 Million CP lights.

I have yet to try it in the field, but am wondering if it will only last 20 minutes or so. If so, I am hosed.

Have I made a big mistake? Should I box it back up and return it to WalMart?

Don't know exactly how you are gonna hunt with the light but if you will need more than 20 min's I think you will have a problem. Re-Charge ones don't last very long when used alot. If you only turn it on once in a while it will last longer depending on your use.

Arrowheader,
I use a red lens on a 40,000 watt Wheat Lite on a soft cap. If I can illuminate a car's license plate at the same distance that I intend to hunt at, then that's enough light. The belt battery has a reostat for more light capability, but I use it at it's lowest power. I only need to see their eyes and a general body outline.

Keep in mind that I hunt with a shotgun at night. If you're using a rifle and are taking longer shots, then you would need more light to make the predator's eyes illuminate.

My hunting light will last for 3 or 4 nights of hunting with 6 to 10 stands per night, before recharging.

Good hunting, Bowhunter57

Where did you get your light at? By the way, know any good places to hunt around Columbus? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Eric E,
Welcome to Predator Master's message board!

I've had this light for years and I don't remember where I purchased it, but I think Rush Creek Sporting Goods sells them. If you take U.S.33 out of Dublin to S.R.31 that will take you right in to Kenton, Ohio. Rush Creek is on 205 W. Franklin St., Bob Donahue is the owner and the Ph.# 419-674-4946. If Bob doesn't have what you're looking for, try www.huntsmart.com and click on "lights" in the menu on the left, then click on "rechargable lights" and look at the package called "The Tracker Head Lamp".

Living in Columbus, you should be able to find them at a Galyan's store. There are 2 of them there in Columbus....they're kinda like a mini-Cabelas.

It's been my experience that the soft hats are warmer and less noisy for hunting.

I've not hunted around Columbus, but to the south of you in Pickaway, Ross, Vinton and Jackson counties there is a "healthy" population of coyotes. As much as coyotes are opportunists you should be able to call them closer to where you live, as opposed to traveling so far. Sometimes they live closer to town than you might imagine.

Good hunting, Bowhunter57

I PURCHASED A 12VOLT RECHARGEABLE LSI 2MILL CP. VERY HEAVY AND ONLY LASTED ABOUT TWENTY MINS. OF CONTINUOUS BURN TIME. IF YOUR SPOTS ARE SOME 20 TO 30 MINS APART, A CAR CHARGER WORKS FINE FOR REJUICING THE BATTERY BETWEEN HUNTS. THE LIGHT GETS VERY HEAVY CARRYING AND SHINING AFTER SEVERAL SET-UPS.

Thanks for the info on the light. I go to gander mountain all the time, little high on prices, but good place to look at what is out there. Is Rush Creek a big store? I am still searching for some land to hunt around my area. Guess I will have to keep looking.

I think 2 mill is a little much, my opinion though. I use a 400,000 Q-Beam, with a red lens, and almost nearly like using a friends 200,000 even more. We hunt a lot out of a pickup, and anything over that sure does light up the truck, any little movements, whatever, even though the beam isn't directly on it. I have a million and it lights things up like daytime, make you want to wear camo at night!!!! Point the light one way and every thing the other way has light reflected back of the ground, thats a little much.

The red 200,000 will light up some eyes up to 300 yards at least. If you see eyes, there is a good chance of it being dead. If you can put your shot in 2 in. at 100 yds, then eyes is all you need!! Need a little more? Aim just below the eyes and drill 'em in the chest.

Don't have much experience with the recharchable. We do carry a small nickel-cad battery out when we don't use the truck.

I have had good results with the Optronics 250,000 cp light that mounts on my scope. 6 volt battery slips into my vest pocket; on-off switch velcroes to the rifle receiver.

I hunt yotes in central Texas with shots up to 200 yards (typical shots are in the 60 - 80 yards range however). We look for reflecting eyes initially and then identify the target before squeezing off the round.

I bought from Cabelas. They also have a 350,000 cp model that I would have probably bought, knowing what I know now.

Hope this helps.....

Thanks so much you guys!!! I am gonna take your advice and look at a 200,000 to 400,000 CP light. Maybe even a MagLite at 40,000. I expect most of my shots will be less than 50 yards with a .22 or a shotgun for red fox.

I need battery life and a 50 yard field of view.

I'll leave it to the Texans for all shots over 200 yards!!! We have a house every 200 yards in SE Pennsylvania!!

Thanks again.

I DONT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT CONDITIONS YOU ARE HUNTING IN BUT WHERE I HUNT IS WHEAT FIELDS NEXT TO CREEK BOTTOMS. REFLECTIVE LIGHT IS MINIMAL SO THE BRIGHTER THE LIGHT THE BETTER. ALSO WHERE I HUNT THE VERNOM HAVE TO BE 100 PERCENT IDENTIFIED BEFORE SHOOTING DUE TO CATTLE AND DEER. JUST SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.
