2 pm coyote

We had blowing snow and strong winds this morning which convinced me to stay home. Just after lunch it looked like it might be worth a shot to do a stand.
Got to the farm just after 1pm... Farmer was in the workshop, we talked for a bit, he wished me luck and off I went.
I setup in the fairly open bush with the field at my back. Set up the caller about 20 yds away, got settled in and began screaming out with a dying rabbit sound. After a minute I cranked up the caller as it was still pretty windy out. Not a minute later I see a coyote from a distance coming in, only to have this other one in my lap in seconds. He was coming in hard, had to WOLF him really loud 3 times before he stopped for the 25 yd shot. At the shot I see the other one take off with no follow up shot...

That looks a lot like some of the terrain I hunt minus the snow.......well, they are predicating snow here Friday though.

Congrats

The last couple years I rarely leave the house before sun up. They seem to show up all day. Last spring near the end of March I had a a three dog day from nine to three.

I really don't get why people don't hunt in the afternoon. Either a coyote hears you or he doesn't. Great hunt, congratulations.
I have always been a day hunter, seems that those minutes just after sundown are primetime here. I'm gonna venture out Tuesday for an all day hunt and see how things go after the 10/11 inches of snow have receded and roads are passable.

How different would you say hunting coyote in the day is from hunting at night? I've always hunted them at night.

I have never hunted at night, but I know that predators are way less cautious at night as evidenced on this forum by the numbers taken by all that hunt nights.
Recently purchased a thermal and will be testing the water (Pun intended) as we have had 14 inches rain in the last 7/10 days and I can't get to 2 of my favorite areas.
