2 stage vs. 1 stage trigger

like having a lot of slack in your trigger. take up the play then you can feel the trigger. i would still rather have a nice light crisp single stage.

dishguy,
If you try a quality 2 stage trigger you will have a different view I think. The first stage is just loose takeup, the second stage breaks like the proverbial glass rod. No mush. As controllable as a single stage just safer in a gas gun!

I have a Geissel Super Dynamic - Enhanced on one of mine now. Very similar to the SSA - Es but with a flat trigger and 2.3 first/1.2 second stage pull weights.

I've tried singles and doubles and, given the choice, would not use a single again. The first stage pull offers a short smooth take up to a definite stop at the second stage. At that point a very gentle pull thru a glass rod break drops the hammer.

I find it makes the shot MUCH more predictable. It does add to safety, particularly at sub 1 lb. trigger pulls, but I'm in it for the feel.

I have a Remmy 700 with a massaged factory single stage. I'm looking for a way to convert it to a 2.

KlrDrvr, Look at Huber Concepts. I've read they are nice. I thought about one for my Remmy 700, but didn't have it in the budget.

Thanks. I'm considering a rebarrel/overhaul on my 700. This looks interesting. I can understand about the budget though. These puppies are not cheap.

edit. I called Huber. These things look exactly like what I'm looking for. John H was very helpful. Not cheap, but about the same as a high end Geissel for the AR.

you may be right. i have changed opinions on many things in the past. and may change my preference again. i wasn't implying one any better than the other, just my opinion on 2 stage vs 1 stage. i have a nice light 2 stage in a different semi gun. it's a very nice trigger and breaks under a lb but i still like my single stage better. guess i'm "different"

what is the lightest 2 stage available and/or adjustable?

Dishguy, I assumed you had not tried a good 2 stage. They are not for everyone and if you prefer single, you prefer single. Like Ford and Chevy. Was trying to be helpful and not anything else. Glad you took it as intended!

I was a single stage fan for 30 years until I put a Kidd two stage in a 10/22 project. I wish I had known years ago what I do now. Just make sure you get a good one. Don't get me wrong, there are some applications that I still prefer a single stage, but most of the time, I know opt for the two stage.

i may try one of the geissele.? i didn't take it wrong. my preferred way isn't always the best way. i try to be open to others ideas and opinions.

Sure....
Don't like any amount of take up on a trigger.

I seem to be the opposite. I'm actually wanting a Huber Concepts or similar for my M700. They are just too pricey for me. I love my AR 2 stage National Match on my RRA. Some Accu-triggers I can like, most I can't. I think what I like about the 2 stage is that I can build my grip and pull the first stage until it hits the wall and wait for my shot. Small nudge at the right time and it's gone. I use it on groundhogs that like to play whack-a-mole with me in the den. I put the cross hairs where their head pops up and pull the first stage and wait, when the head appears again, I only need a fraction of a second to close the deal. I like it for movers too, just take up the first stage until the lead looks right then short pull to send it. I shot a buddies AR with a single stage CMC trigger and it felt like a left handed football bat to me

I think a lot of it is what you're use to and your mindset. I wouldn't consider a different trigger on my model 7's, but an AR feels wrong to me with a single stage. A revolver would feel weird with take-up, but I like it in a semi-auto pistol.

All of my ar's have NM2 stage triggers. I really like them for the semi when hunting with gloves. As someone else stated if you have a hard charging yote you can instantly pull through the 1st stage and wait until you think it is close enough and the bark at it and when it stops sendit. I know it took me a little to get use to. But they are not for everyone. I have to retrain myself if I have been shooting a bolt.

If you guys ever get the chance, try the Geissle 3gun trigger! It has the best of both a single stage and a 2 stage trigger all in one. The reasoning behind the hybrid trigger is for fast follow up shots as in the 3 gun competitions. My Stag 3G rifle has that trigger and I absolutely love it! My preference is a 2 stage for bench shooting and a single stage for hunting and the 3gun fits nicely in between. There are some great triggers out there, but the Geiselle's have to be felt to be believed
