20-250 with 55gr Bergers

Good for you Chad.......go for it. Then you can build a 17-204, load up some 30gr. bullets and embarrass the big bore fellas at those far away distances.

It is Bergers 204 cal 40gr. Each of the bullets are 204 cal Bergers . The 30 and 35 gr are flat base, the 40's, 50's, and 55's are bt's.

I just had to pull up this thread from the past to see if anyone has any new updates on their results.

Especially since I'm thinking hard about the 20-250 AI... with 55 Bergers in a 8 twist, 3 groove Pacnor barrel... with the highest speeds possible.

Starting my 20-250 tomorrow!

Have all my parts now and a new reamer so this thing is on the move!

Lilja 9 twist
Blue printed Remington
Jewell Trigger
McMillan A3 sporter

Started my 20-250 project today. Using a tuned Remington. Trued action and bolt, bushed firing pin, replaced firing pin assembly with GreTan. Turned firing pin down to fit new sleeve. Did a few things prior to getting barrel which is a nine twist Lilja. Here's a few pics from today. Hope to do some more tomorrow.

Got her put together. Shot a few rounds for break in, looks impressive. Going to chronograph today. If it impresses me enough I will do some fluting on the bolt and barrel. If not we will Cerakote and finish it up. Groups from 50's and 55's look good. 3780 with 55's. 5/8" group. Will take it down some.

Very nice, what load are you using? I've had mine up to 3850 with the 55 bergers but its hard on the brass, i 'm running them at 3700 now

Starting load development with H-414. It worked well in my 20 Dasher so trying it here. Get about the same velocities I did with the Dasher. The regular 22-250 case just feeds much nicer. Think I will stay in the 3700 fps range. Have some 50's I'll test as well.

Thanks guys.

Black, gray, and dark gray. Do not know the %s.

Decided to flute the bolt and not the barrel. Going to put a side bolt release in it too.
Will Cerakote all the metal Grafite black and probably do the bolt flutes and scope bases a gray color.

Finished it up a few days ago. Again, built on a tuned Rem. 700 short action with a few nice custom features. 9 twist #3 Lilja, Jewell trigger, McMillan A-3 sporter pillar and steel bedded, Vortex PST scope, and Talley rings. Cerakoted graphite black and a few touches of gray Cerakote also.

Shooting some 50 grain Bergers at 3800 fps as starting loads. H-414 powder. First three groups pictured. Groups shrunk as bulletts were pulled from lands. Took it with us for a squirrel and chuck hunt and had a couple of shots at 380 yds. Both head shots. Pretty happy with it so far.
