Looking at getting my first suppressor and thought about getting a 308 to use it on hunting deer and antelope. Do you guys think a 20" barrel would work? Thinking about using 110 tsx or 125 bt's. the rifle I am thinking about is the savage hog hunter. It has a lot of features for the price and I can upgrade the stock and put dbm on it at a latter date. I just hate to thread my shiny blued 243.

for deer and antelope, you'll be just fine. And once you get your suppressor, that shiny blued .243 will get threaded too. I'll bet...

It better be I just built one

Im running heavier bullets though. I tried the 125's on deer didnt like them. Shooting 165s now.

The 308 I hunt with most runs 150gr Accubond handloads. I'd certainly not hesitate to squeeze the trigger on a deer or lope at 400yds.........

Out of a short barrel that is also suppressed, I think that you could possibly looking at poor expansion from a Barnes. At those reduced velocities, the Ballistic Tip/SST type bullets may perform real well for the setup.

To keep the performance level up, I would stay with at least 150-grain bullets.

I used a 20 Inch barreled .308 with 178 AMax's on 5 deer a couple of hogs and two elk on a New years week-end hunt. My elk was only 80 yards or so but I let my friend shoot my .308 at a cow elk and he dropped it at 448 yards.

Here is my boar shot at a little over 300 yards at a trot... one of my luckier shots.

Why would a suppressor have an effect on the terminal effects of any projectile?

I get 2760FPS out of a 10 FP in .308 with a 20" barrel using BlackHills 168gr MHP's. I'd be willing to bet that their might be an increase in velocities with a lighter monolithic projectile. But even at 2760FPS, it would work just fine.

Yeppppper. A 308 is gonna push a 130gr plenty fast. 20" tube or not.

Not sure where the "suppressor" comment was going"............

Well I just sent the money order out today on the rifle and the stock should be here Friday. Thinking it might need a paint job before I put it together going to see about the can next Wednesday.
