20 to 80 yard shot mechanical broadhead tips???

The good old Thunderhead is hard to beat. I have killed most of my archery deer with it.

I have only tried one deer with a mechanical and it was a doe. It was a Rocket Steelhead. It hit the offside shoulder joint so it did not pass through. She went about 80 yards and died, but left no blood trail at all.

Last year I took three hogs with the old Bear Razorheads and I was able to recover them all, but none of them left a blood trail, but hogs are bad about not bleeding good.

I am going to try the Wasp SST Boss this year.

Billy Goat- how many deer have you taken with a bow?

i had a bad experience with a expandable opening one blade first and tumbling the arrow it was a 30 yrd quartering away shot /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif the arrow flipped forward and only penetrated 2" just enough to get blood on the first 1/4" of arrow this was a big 6 point bull /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif.
i changed to fixed that same day /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.
I'm sure the elk is fine it never penetrated the ribs /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif.
my son shoots montecs now and I'm impressed with the durability of those heads /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif.
i shoot crimson talons /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif but when i run out I'm trying the montec.
60 yrd is the extreme for archery hunting /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif. its a game of how close not how far /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif.
i won a monster shoot at 110 yrds today /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gifhitting a 10 ring on a 3-d bear /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif but i dang sure wouldn't shoot at a animal that far /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. well maybe a prairie dog /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifha ha.

That is why I won't shoot mechanical - too many moving parts for me. I shoot a 4 blade Muzzy and I've never had problems with shot placement when switching between broadheads and tips.

i killed a 7x7 bull the year before and a mule deer 178" gross but one bad experience is one to many.
I'll never go back to mechanicals

DC I just started shooting them about a month ago So I haven't shot a critter yet with them. The first true test will be on speedgoats in a few weeks. I have several guys I shoot 3D with that all swear by them. I was telling them about my experiences and they convinced me to try them. i am glad I did they fly great!!

Just my opinion. I think even a 50-60 yard shot is too far for you're setup. You may be able to kill one at 80 yards if need be. Thats great if the animal sets still for the flight of arrow. A couple years ago I shot a huge buck at 25 yards. I can tear up arrows at 40 yards all day long. BUT, as soon as I squeezed the trigger on the release, the buck took a step. I hit him straight in the gut. I did nothing wrong. The deer just stepped and I didn't have the chance to prepare for it. I was extremely lucky because the buck was so focused on the decoy that he didn't even know what happened. He just turned and walked to the decoy. He was 28 yards and wouldn't stop. I took a walking shot that I WAS prepared for and drilled him perfect. YOU CANOT PREPARE FOR WHAT THE ANIMAL WILL DO! No matter how much training you have

what is all the fuss with you guys about long shots ? I know some of you had to have seen the new Rambo movie. He popped a dude in the head from like a buck fifty. He also used his hand made broadheads. Besides, Billygoat said he has developed muscle memory.

go with the crimson talons i shot a yote broadside in the shoulder at 28 yds almost a pass through the arrow was sticking out the other side i am shooting 31 inch maxima arrows with 125 gr talons
out of a diamond bow at 81 lbs draw
those broadheads are deadly i shot a deer through the ribs las year complete pass through with an inch hole in and out sprayed blood over 4 feets each side
as far as for long range bow i wont shoot it past 50 thats my max practice and field ill use the rifle for long range
i view bowhunting as get in and close without being detected
i havent shot at an animal past 44 yds but i can hit 3 inch grp at 50
just my etical view
some view it differently
