Well I’ve officially started my hunting season a little over a week ago. To kick it off, I went elk hunting but brought all of my calling gear. After a 17 hour drive, I went out for a couple late night sets and managed to call in two. Only got one of them recorded (still trying to get accustomed to this Nocpix scope).
Went up solo elk hunting for a few days and on the first evening, I end up calling a mountain lion in with cow calls. It popped up about 40 yards in front of me and completely caught me off guard. So much so, my gun wasn’t ready and my scope was turned up way too far. I had to take a rushed shot and sent it right over the top of him. That shots still haunting me and quite frankly, put a huge damper on the trip. Not sure I’ll ever get that kind of layup opportunity again.
After elk hunting, I made a few evening and night sets in between visiting family. Again, I didn’t get all of the day or night shots recorded but here’s some of them. I ended up finishing my trip with 16 coyotes and a really hurt ego over the mountain lion haha.
Day and night September coyotes.
