I have been shooting 39 grain blitz kings from federal premium, but am having a hard time finding them. What are your guys' thoughts and experiences with the 40 grain nosler ballistic tips, or v-max's? Shooting big wyoming coyotes. Thanks for your help Bryan

A buddy of mine has been shooting the 32 gr hornady v-max with pretty good results out of his .204. He does have the only coyote "hit" and not recovered though. Looking like a pretty good hit in the binoculars but by the time we made our way to the spot (about 210 yds) the coyote had made it over a hill and was gone. I am trying to confince him to switch to the 40 grain though. I shoot a 22-250 with 55 gr soft points, I don't like it when they run away, or even spin.

The 40 grain Vmaxes and the berger 35 grain hp's have been good for me. The 32's I have heard too many people talk about run offs and issues with the 32 vmax being shoulder splash happy with the speed you can get out of them. I have had a couple run off with the 39 grain BK's and none run off with the 40 Vamx and the 35 berger. Hope it helps.

I initially shot the 32 gr vmax's, but had several get up and take off. the ones I did hit had no exits. The 40's work good for me. I've had some exits, but not many. I still poke a 2nd hole in them if they even flinch though.

I shoot the 32 grain vmax in my 204. They work realy well for me they did so well off the bat that is all I have ever used. I have some speer with p tip, but never made it to reloading them. Good luck this is only for reading pleasure since I just took a look back at you post and saw the 40 grain. Sorry

I have limited experience with the 40 grain BT's but the one coyote I shot with the BT went right down and there was no exit. There are better grouping bullets but the BT's shoot more than good enough for calling.

Better grouping? I shot an 11 round, 3 1/2 inch group with the nozlers on steel at the kifaru rendezvous. The blitzkings and v maxes won't do that outta my rifle. Not at 500 yds anyhoo.........

Been shooting the 40 grain V-maxes on 30+ yotes now. Bang flops every time on facing me shots and bang flops or a little spinning on broadside shots. Several of those have been Big Wyoming Coyotes too. Best of luck, Tom Austin

thanks tom appreciate the feed on the vmax's i guess it'll probably be decided on which shoot the best. as soos as i get my guns back from being hydro dipped

Another dog that took a nozler nap.......drt, no exit, 80 yds.

I shoot anything over 32gr for coyotes I read here that the 32's were prone to splashing. The berger 35gr shoot really small groups and work good on yotes although I haven't had a problem with noslers or hornadys either as they seem to work equally as well. I have a box of 39gr bk's that quite honestly I just haven't had the time to work up a load in yet. My personal jury is out on the Barnes varmint grenade, although I have a decent load, key word decent, they did make a few prarie dogs just plain disappear in a cloud of red mist. Long range, 250+ performance is doubtful in any kind of wind more than a breeze. I personally reserve the 32gr. bullets for smaller than coyote size game although that may change if I run into a few and have drt performance.
