,204 and a wolf!

I just joined the forum because I know you all enjoy wolf hunting stories and I have one!

I was riding my snowmachine looking for wolves and moose sheds in my favorite area and.....

You never did see a feller nail the gas, lock up the brakes, throw the gloves and goggles, remove rifle from scabbard, chamber a round, scope caps up, step away from the view blocking snogo exhaust, drop to one knee, take aim, oops safety on, re-aim, miss, miss, WHAMO as fast I did today! I consider myslef lucky, although I feel pretty good about making a running 215 yard neck shot. The wolf folded and never moved. My first wolf - finally. I howled with the rest of the pack for an hour or so afterwards, but they weren't coming in. I'll be baaaaack...

I haven't weighed her yet, but will. Canines are worn down, broken and chipped, although they aren't as big as I thought they would be, hmmm. I'll see what my trapping buddy thinks.

So I used my Model 700 in .204 Ruger with 35 gr Berger handloads. No exit, hope to find the bullet and see what it did other than produce a clean/quick kill! A wolf with a .204 - that oughta stir the pot!!

See if I can post a link to the pics...

Way to go man. He was a bruiser wasn't he? I think it's funny when people can't tell the difference between a coyote and a wolf.. God knows there's alotta misconceptions about a coyotes size i'n these neck of the woods.

Those Wolves look pretty Big! Glad to see that the .204 took her down! I heard that the .204 can barely make a clean kill on a Ground Squirrel.. J/K I like mine too. Congrats! And welcome to the forum.

Thanks guys.

I didn't call it in, it was traveling on a frozen river as was I. Howling and distress calls work for calling wolves, although I haven't called any in - yet.

I stopped using my .204 because it did TOO MUCH damage it would blow the back out of a lynx and completely ruin it same with fox. I shot a wolf earlier this year with my AR and there was only a tiny in hole with no exit and when I got him opened up the inside was destroyed it was pretty bad but VERY lethal and fast none the less with no noticeable fur damage so I have been happy with that for now! and switched to the .17HMR for lynx and fox. Congrats on the wolf and I know exactly where that yote was taken based off the pic. There is a pretty big pack of wolves further towards of nenanna running the river right now towards where I have my line. I blew it last week on one of them I blame faulty equipment!
