204 or 220 Swift..

Go with the swift. I love mine in VS SF II. It's a tack driver. Easily shoots under 1/2". But like others said I might consider the .204 if ammo availability is an issue. If you hand load then I would go with the swift hands down...

I guess if you are comparing for a hunting application, you cannot really put them in the same catagory. If I was exclusively fox hunting I would look to the .204. If you are looking for some longer range, and a coyote gun, well I would go Swift. Either will suit you fine in the PD field. If you are just looking to for a new caliber to learn, then get both. Maybe not at the same time, but in the future.

If your looking at a Praire dog rifle .204 hands down! Coyote hunting then the Swift will lay the SMACK down!

Do what I did and get one of each. I use both on varmints up to coyote size. 204 mor fur friendly in general but does not have the "authority" of the swift. I like the 204 for the smaller varmints and the fact that I can have it in a AR platform, but the swift was my first varmint/yote gun and will always have a place in my safe.

Depends on what you want to use it for. There is a definite cool factor with the swift, but I also really like my 204. It is a dedicated PD/paper gun though.

My father in law owns a Swift an I own a 204. Absolutely LOVE my 204, but after shooting his Swift... there's just something about that caliber that just kinda gives u this "macho" feeling if you will. I will own a swift some day, also will never get rid of my 204. So, IMO if money isn't an object... definitely go with the Swift. I've taken coyotes an fox with my 204 at 350+ but I think a Swift would be much more consistent and well... its a Swift.

I couldn't decide which one I wanted either so I did the only logical thing I could. I got both.

I can't imagine picking one over the other.

I agree get both.I have both in identical #1's and they both are great the swift came first and i have had the most time with it so for me it wins.

I used to have 2 swifts, both Ruger 77's, tang safety, one a sporter 24" and the other the 26" varmint, and both shot very well. I wish I still had the light one, it would have been a great coyote rifle. The heavy one was replaced with a 243, shooting 105 amax's. Long range pdog hits are much easier in the wind we get out here with the 243, but they don't explode as well, lol.

I really like the 204 for pdogs, barrel life, economy of components, low recoil and muzzle blast, and ar compatibility. For something very flat shooting out to "normal" ranges in combination with the other attributes there isn't much else in a factory round that will beat it.

But the 220 swift has waaaay more horsepower, no comparison. Apples and oranges. If one of our sponsors gets the AR in that caliber going (they're working on it) it will be tempting to get back into one.

Plus the swift is just flat out cool.

that would be bad to the bone!

Hands down, the venerable 220 Swift. It's so much more versatile. I have a Remmy 700 Classic that will always be a part of my gun collection. The one gun I will never part with. It's an absoulte laser and easily the most accurate gun I own. When handloading, the Swift will trounce the 204.
Don't let cost sway you either, unless you're shooting an exhorbinant amount, the cost factor is negligable.

Buy the Swift. It will quickly become your favorite!

I have the oppritunity to buy a Ruger M77 26" Varmint Barrel .220 Swift tang safety 1978 with a Leupold 12x Adj. Objective scope...low miles. $600 is asking price...should i do this? How hard is ammo to find for it? And brass? Need an opinion asap.
Or should i get a Ruger American Predator .204 and a Savage 93r17 Accu trigger Bull barrel.

Or 3rd option is a CZ 527 Varmint .17 Hornet....HELP

The Swift is an awesome caliber.

I reload so I am not sure if you can much in factory ammo and right now there is no brass to be found.
