204 vs 223- recoil and report

many aspects of 204 vs 223 have been debated and in some cases beaten into the ground but having never fired a 204 I have two really simple questions which have nothing to do with which is more effective on a coyote, heh heh.

how does the recoil between the two rounds compare?

how does the report volume between the two rounds compare?

I would imagine both to be similar but figured Id put the word to the experts here. Thinking of getting a contender barrel in one of these calibers, having trouble deciding.

I don't really see much difference in the two. The 204 may have a slighter amount of recoil and report, but not by much at all. You'll be happy with either. I tend to keep using my 223's, mainly b/c of the massive amount of rounds and brass that I always have on hand for it...LOL..

Good luck with you decesion...!!!

The noise level and recoil of the two would have to be very very similar. IF that tiny bit of difference is going to make a difference in whether to "shoot it or not shoot it" a much quieter sport may be in order.

My guess ....it would take some expensive equipment to measure the noise level differences. Recoil.....neither one is exactly a "boomer".....quite frankly anything less than my .260 Rem....all pretty much feel the same.

P&G,
Recoil comparesion between a Rem 700 Classic .223 24"barrel and a Browning A-Bolt Hunter .204 Ruger 22" barrel.
.223 with a 50gr Nosler BT and 28 Grs of 748 the cross hairs will move slightly more off targer than the .204 with 35gr Bergers and 28 grs. of varget. Both have very lite recoil.
Noise comparesion between the same 2 rifles.
The .204 seems to have a deeper boom, and could be considered louder than the .223. I equate it,(204) to about the same noise as the 22-250 with 26" barrel. Not quite but close.
If you want quiet and no recoil try the 221 fireball. Seems more of a soft pop than a sharp crack. Load it with Blue Dot and 50 grainers and your about the same as a 22 mag. Perfect for closein night work or wacking rats behind the barn.

I own both a .204 and .223 in the Ruger #1 and would agree with some of the previous writers that the report and recoil are very similar. I think that the recoil and report are slightly less in the .204 but not of any significance.
