22-250; 1:12 or 1:14 twist be ok for deer shooting 60 gr NP?

The two 22-250's i'm looking at (a savage 12fv and a Rem. SPS) have these twists. Mostly I'd shoot light bullets at yotes, but come deer season, what kind of group, and how acceptable would it be to shoot those bigger bullets out of it? Or would it be better to reload some 52 grain TSX's and just use my friends reloading stuff? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif thanks.

I would get the 1 in 12" twist and shoot a heay bullet like the 63 grain PowerPoint. I love the Nosler Partitian and I am sure the 60 grainers will kill deer sized game, I would NOT use them for deer.

There are .224 bullets specifically made for med size animals like deer. I do not think the Partitians were.

Sumrifle. I met and talked with Mr Nosler the year they brought out the 60 grain Partition. Deer hunters was the reason they came out with that bullet. They did extensive testing on deer in a cull hunt situation. I got to see the test results and the recovered bullets. comoplete with diagrams and pictures of wound channels. They went to extremes to prove its worth. Top performance in all situations. It will do a jam up job. I can personnally attest to that fact. That is the bullet I loaded for my then 8 year old nephew in a 22-250. One shot kills on several bucks over the course of several seasons.

Get the one with the 12 twist.
You'll have more bullet options. Some 14 twists won't stabilize a 55 grain Blitzking!
With the 12 you will be able to use a plethora of weights and designs. I have 3 22-250's, a 14,12 and a 8 twist.
I can shoot many more variety of weights in the 12 twist than any of the others. A 12 twist can shoot a light bullet as well as a heavier one.

As far as groups go, my 8 twist shoots 68 grain and 80 grain bullets in the low 2's consistantly.
I would venture to say that with a good rifle in a 12 twist it should be able to shoot the 60's with tweaked handloads in at least in .5" Sam

With the 22-250 bullet placement is going to be a big factor. More than the bullet weight. I let my daughter shoot mine this year because she did not like my 270. She killed a 2 point muley, one shot right behind the ear at 130 yds. She used a 52 gr. Hornady match BTHP. The deer dropped in its tracks.

My 2 Savages shoot the 60gr bullets better than anything else I have found. I have not tried the Partions, but I am sure they will do fine also.

The 12 twist would be my choice. Shoot the 53TSX if it will stabilize. Here is a little meat buck shot with a '250 at 250 yds. Custom barrel that had an 8 twist. He was DRT. I ruined a shoulder, but didnt do any tracking. You can just see my "heeler" in the background. He was upset there was no tracking involved. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
