22-250,1-12 twist bullet choice?

I just had my gunsmith rechamber a 223Rem barrel to 22-250 and install it on my Ruger M77 MKII.

I like this setup. Especially since this gunsmith usually has my rebarrel/rechamber work done in less than a week. Sometimes he get a little slow and it may take up to two whole weeks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (Now that is fantastic, all by itself...)

What bullet would everyone choose for coyotes with this rig?
It shoots the 60 vmax's with Varget and 53gr HP's with RL-15 under MOA @ 100, so it is accurate enough for me. Are there more favored bullets besides these two?

1 in 12 is an unusual choice of twist for a 22-250 (usually factory barrels come in 1 in 14, and custom jobs often go for a fast twist, like 1 in 8), but there is no reason why it shouldn't shoot the same 53 gr and 60 gr bullets as did your .223 and do it well.

I believe Savage barrels are 1-12. But yea, it does seem that all the extra horse power of the 22-250 over the 223 is kind of wasted with a standard 1-14 twist barrel. IMO

I have a Savage LRPV in 22-250 with a 1 in 12 twist it shoots the 52gr bullets up to the 64gr Bergers over Varget very well but won't stabilze anything longer.

I've a Rock barreled 8 twist 22-250 that will eat anything from 50-80grainers for lunch. I don't shoot any lightweight pills in it anymore, but have tried them in the past and they shoot well. It liked the 50'max at 3750, but the 75Amax at 3300 is that rifles go to load.

A 22-250 launching high BC bullets is a whole 'nuther ball game compared to the slow twisted 22-250's that the factories seem to enjoy putting on the shelves.

Isn't savage offering a 1-9" on some of their '250's now??

I shoot a custom match 52 grain bullet in my savage LRPV, puts tiny bugholes on the paper at 100. I havent worked up a hunting load yet but i think i m going to try some blitzkings or bergers. Oh yeah those custom match bullets dont expand very well but they get the job done on groundhogs!!

hello..just my two bit's i selected a savage product to get the 1/12 twist in 22/250 so i could shoot 60 grainer's...i have only loaded 60's & have no reason to try any lighter as this is a coyote only rig...60 v-max..60 hornady soft point's shoot well..using varget & w-760 powder's...

That twist oughtta stabilize the 60 gr. JLK Low Drag (BC-.339) just fine--it does for my partner's 22-250 Sav./Striker. If u wanna get that rig as far out as it'll go, that bullet will probably work for you. Check with Swampy Milholland right here-- www.swampworks.com

...not sure how fur-friendly it'll be tho.
