22-250 ackley vs 22-250 remington please help

What about H4831 is that a Hot powder? Ackleyman I'll be getting some 65gr Sierra Game Kings this week. Would 760 be a better powder then H4831? 760 burns faster then H4350 doesn't it? What about Re#22? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

For those with a 14" twist the 60 grain Hornady V-Max flat base performs very well, at least it did for me, in a standard .22-250. You can hit things fairly well out to perhaps a quarter mile, then the wind really takes hold of them. Much harder then, you need a spotting partner and a keen attention paid to the wind.

When I rebarrelled to AI I got a 10" twist, it never really liked the 75 Amax - too slow spin I guess. The Berger 70 LTB did better, but way more $$ than the Hornady 60's. Mine started blowing up the 60's at the end of its second season (perhaps 800-900 rounds). Seating the bullets out another .025" or so seemed to solve that and improve accuracy for a while, but after another 1000 rounds or so it's about toast.

First BBL was a 14"twist AI BBL it shot 60 gr V-maxs really poorly. Just received some 65gr Sierra Game kings. I'm being told Ball powders are easier on BBLs so I might try some Ram Shot Big Game powder. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Iorn, read my post again on the load that I was shooting with the Berger 65's. The 22/250 Ai loves Win 760, seen a bunch of them chambered and all of them loved the 760 (50g-65g). 760 meters like water also.

Have you ever done any sand blasting? Coarser the grain of sand, the rougher the texture on the concrete, eh? Same applies with the inside of a barrel with the burning chamber being up to 10".

what about a 12 twist? i am thinking that a 22-250ai is in my near future. i just want to be able to shoot 55 grain v-max and have the barrel last as long as posible. would a 12 twist make since? thanks lee

Ironworker, the 1-8 twist that you have in your rifle changes everything...I can't help you because all of my experience is with 1-12 twists, the 1-8 twists really causes pressures to peak fast.

If you will shoot 55 gr bullets there is absolutely no reason to go AI, especially if you want decent barrel life. To shoot 55 gr bullets I wouldn't use a case even as big as the regular 22-250.
