22-250 AI heavy bullet loads

A friend just had a 22-250 AI built, is having a few problems developing loads. 8" twist, 26" barrel, wants to shoot 69 - 80 gr bullets. Looking for suggestions (mine was to start with regular 22-250 max loads & work up) The search function didn't help me much - so I'm asking for ideas.

I use H-380 for my 75gr A-Max, the easiest thing to do is look at 220 swift load data. Start at the low end and move us as you would typically do for any caliber.

Hi!

I created a log in just so I could help out with this. I have a 22-250AI with a 22' Hart 1-8' barrel and have a couple loads with the 75Amax.

Was using 39 gr 4007 for good accuracy and 3150 fps. Fairly high SD but was working ok and didn't want to search so long for perfection that I risked shooting the barrel out. They don't last long in this caliber.

One day I was looking at a tin of 7828 ssc that I use for my 270 WSm and thought... "Hmm..."

44 grains gets me to 3300 fps and sd in single digits. F-210M and OAL of 2.650' Extremely accurate too although probably pretty high pressures. I'd try that powder even though I haven't seen a 7828 application in this caliber/case. Also, I've mentioned that I suspect pressures may be high, maybe dangerously so. I have no way to measure and cannot accept liability for this load in your rifle(s). That said, I'm on my 5th reload with WW brass and this combo. Work up at your own peril!

Go to the Nosler #5 (or #6) reloading manual for 22/250 AI loads. Start at 22/250 loads and judiciously work up to the 220 Swift powder levels.

A 60 grain bullet may not stabilize in a 1 in 14 twist. You can try it but the 50-55 grain in my ackley work the best for me. Watch for pressure signs and always work up from the bottom of swift data. The real advantage is running them a moderate pressure and you wont get the brass growth so common with the 22-250 in its original form.
