22-250 Info

I have been getting on average 3500 using the 50 vmax with all of my barrels (33.5 to 35 of Varget), Hardy, Proof, Rock Creek, GW, Bartlein, Carbon 6, K&P, Mullerworks, and some older Rem Factory barrels.
With the new 62's I have been getting right around 3400 with my 7.7 twist Carbon Six barrels, I have 3 rifles configured with those barrels and all are within 20-50fps...
I am also not pushing them as hard as a guy could, I'm right at 34 grains of Varget with no pressure. I'm also using the XeroC1 chrono.
I'm just going to start video documenting and explaining this stuff and posting it on Youtube.

Skinny you still have that old Umar? That was some of your first vids back in the day. Trying to find some of those 62s they are sold out everywhere.

This is a bore scope image of one of my .22 Creedmoor barrels. You can see the end of the neck of the chamber at the bottom of the image, the freebore section and the leade of one land. You can see some very mild fire cracking throughout the image, but you will notice that the edges of the land are still very crisp and uniform. This barrel is only slightly less accurate than it was when fresh and will still produce some groups in the 1 to 1.5 inch range at 400 meters (430 yards). I've heard it said many times that this cartridge is no more than an 800 round proposition before they are done. Anyone want to take a guess as to the number of rounds on this barrel?

If I guess I'll just be wrong :p.

This one is a .22-250AI. With a surprisingly small round count. I've worn out a handful of .22-250 and .22-250AI barrels and got about 2500 rounds out of them (not counting the two 8 twist .22-250AI barrels, which got less than a thousand rounds each). But this one, is still a ways short of 2500. Still shoots pretty decent when clean. But gets fouled pretty quick and like you say, takes too much work to clean. Have a new blank on the shelf to replace this one, just haven't had the free cash to get it chambered yet.

I own a considerable amount of firearms. Mostly hunting firearms in my collection. However, of all my rifles, none gets as much use as my 22-250. What a great overall predator hunting round (coyotes/bobcats). I have a Browning Predator edition X-Bolt. Got it rigged with a Nikon Monarch Scope, Harris Bipod and a suppressor. (1-9 twist) As far as ammo, I do really well loading either Barnes Varmint Grenades or Speer BTHPs. Like someone else wrote above, Varget is my go to powder. I am not claiming to be an expert but that rifle has killed a lot of coyotes for me. I give it my ultimate praise. "It is consistent and reliable."
 
My day rifle. M700, axiom stock, 21 3/4 Lilja 1/12 fluted rem varmint contour 5/8x24 muzzle thread. Sightron stac 4-20 duplex. Harvester suppressor. Consistent 1/4 moa with factory Nosler, Win ammo and my hand loads. Manson custom reamer. Sig brass, Varget. Bullets Nosler 55 BT or Bart's ultra 52 when I want same hole groups, both are GREAT fur bullets. I run them out 3600+.

Damn hotrod. Turn the powder measure DOWN a little. 😁 I'm not sure why those barrels of mine seem to be hanging in there so well, but the other .22 Creedmoor barrel looks just like the image I posted. And believe me I haven't spared the powder with either of them. The image I posted above is at 695 rounds. My 'non predator' 22 CM is mostly used down in Idaho on rock chucks. As you know at the speed the 22-250 AI and 22 CM will generate they make a pretty good chuck rifle.

Forgot the GreTan firing pin assembly and Timmney trigger.
 
I now run 40 BTs or Berger Vs at 4000 in my 22-250s.Fairly fur friendly.
With no value in the fur,I'm back to my 220 Improved running 50BTs at 4300.Not fur friendly but at any range I'm interested in calling it's point n shoot.
 
Kicking around the idea of building with carbon fiber barrel. Does anyone use a carbon fiber barrel? Would like to hear the good, bad and ugly.

The Savage straight pull looks interesting too.

I have a few CF barrels on rifles and in all honesty the only thing they really offer is aesthetics. I generally like the "look" of a larger contour versus a smaller one and if you want the look of a larger contour but not the weight a CF wrapped barrel is about your only option of having both but all the other talk of them cooling better/faster or being more rigid is marketing BS. Also, something you may want to keep in mind, your chances of a CF wrapped barrel not shooting well are higher then they are with an all steel barrel.
 
I had to really think but the only Sporter barrel I have is a Savage Edge in 223 which I gave to my grandson. All the rest are med-HBAR which I mainly leaned towards because of shooting suppressed. However, the older I get the less weight I want to carry. I walked 8 plus miles last night making stands with an AR 10 in 243 with a 15lb pack and I'm not sore (I work out 5 days a week too).

Really leaning towards the Savage Straight Pull (something different). Do you think the 1:12 will handle 40-50 grainers?

Yeah I don't know what happened but 22-250 brass has been pretty difficult to find the last couple years. Kind of funny you mention it because I was doing some cleaning/reorganizing in my gun room yesterday and stumbled upon four boxes of Lapua 22-250 brass I didn't realize I even had. Now my wife would like to say if you find something you didn't know you had that means you've got to much stuff but she sure as shootin doesn't want to hear that when I mention all of her shoes... ;)
 
I remember reading somewhere that Lapua stopped producing 22-250. I did find some for dirt cheap on Gunwerks website a while back. Haven’t checked in a while.
 
Yes,last i heard they quit making 22 250.I think the reason given was 'Ukraine' and other military commitments.Last batch of unfired I found was near $2 a pop.
Think I have 3 boxes of new ones.(300 pieces)Thankfully more than I'll ever need.
