22-250 sight in?

Im just curious as to what everyone is zeroed at on a 22-250. I have some places where i could shoot 400-450 yards or so, but I figure 95% of my shots at coyotes will be less than 250 yards. I just need to figure what would be the best for me, Im thinking 1.5 inches high at 100 yards, zero should be around 225 or 250 yards and hopefully -3 inches at 300. (Or close to that) I know I'll have to shoot it though to verify those figures. BTW, I am shooting 55gr. ammo.

I tried the search but I cant get it to bring up much,

Thanks for any info.

bea175,

where does that leave you zeroed at? And what kinda ammo you use?

rooster, thanks for the calc. It should give me an idea of what to expect.

Hey Varminteer, my 22-250 is sighted in at 1" high at 100yds. I used to sight at 1-1/2 but found that for some reason I was either missing or hitting dogs high from where I was aiming. I brought my impact down to 1" at 100yds and my problems have vanished. Just smoked a yote before Christmas at my folks place this week. She was over 300 yds and all I did was make sure I held on fur in the scope. She didnt' even move. I shoot 50gr Hndy V-max handloads. All I can say is the 22-250 is a mean flat shooting round. Enjoy.

I shoot the 22-250 Ack Imp and load the Nosler 55 gr BT with 42 gr of Win 760. My loads from disk computer program give this chart on my load. Real time shooting in the field will vary somewhat.
3850 ft/sec at muzzle, 255.0 yds zeroed.

My shots are very seldom over 150 yds.

Varminteer,

Apparently ol'e "bea" and I are on the same page of music.

I'm using 55gr. Vmax's over 35.2grs. of 4064 at 3500fps. When the scope is set to group 1.5" @ 100yds., point blank range (where the round zero's to the line of bore) is at 222 yds.
The round hits -4.86" at 300yds.
-17.16" at 400yds.
-38.76" at 500yds.

Coyote control,

I punched your numbers into my software and I got some different numbers.

A 55gr. Vmax (same BC) at 3670fps. 1 1/2" at 100yds.....

Dead on at 235yds.

-3.69" low at 300yds
-14.51" low at 400yds.
-33.42" low at 500yds.

Slight variations occur due to elevation (ft. above sea level), temp. and so on, but they aren't all that much.
I left my figures in which were 1750ft. elevation and 35 degrees.

Take care,
Bob

With that 22-250 of yours u should be able to get to 400-500 yds. pretty well IF u're applying some sort of "tactical" system in the field. Once u get beyond (and sometimes to) point blank range (which really won't vary much more than 25 yds. or so), it helps to know exactly how far out the animal is, which is a good reason to have a laser and some sort of tactical system (ballistic/ranging reticle or tgt. elevation turret) established to get those long-rangers MORE frequently.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Looks like 1.5-2.0 inches high is the norm @100. I got a reload kit for christmas so after I get some brass and a few other things, I'll be reloading. It's a good, flat shooting round it looks like.

Try and make your mext purchase a chronograph as that tells all. Most of the reloading books will give you drop rates, but you need to know the bullets velocity out of the barrel to start with....just my opinnion
