22-250 UMAR Flat Out #$%& At 400dys!!! HD Video!!!

Yea, the 4MOA hold is what I was looking for, I worded that wrong

. I've gotten to the point of not chronographing my loads for tragectory any more. I need the longer range practice anyways. I just find what shoots good at 100yds and isn't over pressure then sight in at that range. Then I try the best ones again at 300yds and note my click values to reach zero again. I run them through a ballistic calculator like JBM or Vortex LRBC with my coefficients and sight heights and keep fudging the velocity until it matches the field data. If it doesn't then I nudge the BC or change sight height by .1" then re-run it. Once it matches then I try it at 500yds and confirm it. Not many chances to shoot much farther around here on a regular basis, so it works that far. I'm sure my idea has flaws in it once you get out past that distance like you guys do. I'm jealous of those wide open spaces you guys have to shoot and those mufflers you have on your rifles

If I ever have the chance to get anywhere close I'll look you up. I'll probably go broke when I get home on buying cans though

. Glad to know my theory works past 500yds

LOL!!! from the sound of some previous threads, I'm sure there are plenty of fellas who will be willing to part with theirs and give you one HECK of a deal... me, I think I'll smoke the barrel out first!!! I'm thinking if we actually get some snow next year I'll have some massive throat erosion after the first 1/10th of the season, probably catastrophic fire cracks after the first quarter... and need to flat out rebarrel after my season is 1/2 done!!! The enjoyment and euphoria that pulling triggers gives me, its really REALLY hard on my trigger finger to not send more rounds down range @ 400-800yds with the UMAR, knowing how fast the barrel life will diminish makes me twitch with anxiety waiting to pull this weapon out for next season.

Thats how I got ahold of mine. dude ovbviously wasnt happy with it, not a bad deal for me as I saved a pile on the setup. im wondering why the short barrel life? i have a couple of bolt 22 250's that i know have upwards of 1k rounds, i have not measured the throat but I have yet to notice any change in accuracy. why would the AR be different?

I have been waiting for a 250 in an AR for quite a few years already and have no intentions of selling it. im just waiting for some better mag options. Id like to see a pmag for these, dont need a 30rd or even a 20rd for that matter. would be nice to see a 10rd for prairie dog shooting though.

also i was wondering is the barrel fluted under the handgaurd or just in front of gas block??

I didn't say that was the exact barrel life, only my expectations of the barrel life, only difference is an AR is semi auto allowing you to heat the barrel up quicker thus shorter life, IF you pull the trigger rapidly and quite often... you said you have a couple 250's with upwards of 1K round as have I, and depending how you shoot they may require a new barrel sooner than 1K or they may not. Every rifle is different, and every shooter shoots his rifle different, thus no one smokes the same barrel out at the same time... my particular rifle is shooting under .5MOA, and if I cannot get groups under sub MOA around the 1k mark, even after seating rounds out due to throat erosion I will rebarrel... do I absolutely need to, NO, will most others rebarrel just because its not sub MOA, NO... but I'm a particular dude.

miss communication. didnt mean for it to sound like it was exact barrel life just curious as to why you figured that number, it sounds like you know your sheet and thats why I asked.

i would have to agree with you that if a guy gets too carried away with rapid fire the barrel will not last long at all. for me the only times i get them even remotely warm is p dogging. I could also see the need to rebarrel around that number of rounds to keep sub moa. my UMAR is also shooting slightly sub .5" so that is a good sign that these barrels are consistent from one to the next. For my purposes, as long as i can consistanly smoke P dogs out to 400yds im satisfied.

nothing wrong with being particular, it makes a better shooter and a better hunter.

I would be down for meeting up and shooting some P dogs sometime if you want. id like to hear how quiet that thing is with a can.

I know an ol Rancher who loves to kill his prairie dogs, he has 7 22-250's and takes em all with him, so when one rifle warms up he moves down the line!!!
Didn't know you had a UMAR as well, glad to hear yours is shooting like mine!!! and I'll give you a heads up... if you listen to my UMAR with the suppressor I run, you will be ruined, causing you to order one ASAP, LOL!!!

yea ive been interested in checking them out. integrally suppressed would be wicked sick!! how much that silencer cost a guy with threading the barrel?

I had OLY thread my barrel, knowing i was going to suppress it, fairly cheap, I think they did it for 65??? the can I run is made for us @ O'Neill Ops, if your interested shoot me a PM.
