22-250 Why is it a love or hate caliber?

Referring back to what you said about the Geneva convention about giving a solder a fighting chance if shot somewhere other than center mass. This is why I would not use it for hunting. I would rather have a dead coyote with a big hole in its side than one run away with a small hole.

Sorry to the OP for getting off topic

Your second paragraph makes 100% sense. The FMJ myth has been slung for eons. I don't get the premis of where or why it started.

I shoot a 22-250 in 12 twist. Best of both worlds... shoots 60 v-max or hp like a 223 but with more speed. What's not to love about that?

Gunner, if you shoot a 22-250, why does your signature have so many dots between the bang and the WHOP!? it's a little faster than that!

At my age I would love to have the problem of burning out the barrel of my 22-250 shooting coyotes. It's right down deadly, isn't that what is all about? Just maybe I will have to re-barrel, what a pleasant though.

I have owned many 22-250's and I have never had one that I
didn't like because of the caliber.
The 22-250 is a fantastic coyote caliber, it's not a deer
hunters dream, it's not a fox skinners perfect pick, it
shoots too flat for most 223 lovers, for the 17 fans it's
not much fun because there is no tracking required, and
yes it is hard on barrels if you are shooting at 300
prairie dogs a day, but for what I do it is dam# near perfect.
P.S. I'm a lover, I just want to be clear.

I do like mine so far, I just want to be able to shoot yotes DRT, and still get good money for the hides. seemed to me like this rifle can do that in our wide open country...

I cant go higher than a 60gr Vmax. It shoots well but not as tight as the 55gr Noslers....

Since you asked... not to stir the pot.... I just wonder why everyone is not shooting a .220 SWIFT instead?

Sort of why is everyone not shooting a 6MM Remington instead of .243 Winchester?

To me, it would be like everyone would still be shooting and bragging on a .222 when there's a .223 available.

One of lifes misteries! Yes, I know the history....

Just pulling everyones leg a little.

If I could get my hands on a .220 Swift I'd spit on the .22-250. Far as I know only produced by Remington now in the 700 VS SFII for $1160. I have $800 in the 250, which is why I have a .22-250.

i shot lots of coyotes with and still like the caliber but when i got my 17.rem. i like it even more because it is very fur friendly and you can see the hit,and watch the animal drop.

We have two Savages in 22-250. We have had no problems with accuracy, coyote take down, or, barrel wear. Personnaly, I think its head and shoulders over the .223 in killing power when it comes to predators. We shoot 50GR VMAX over IMR4064. Love the results!!

My 2cts worth on the subject.

Oh, we don't give a rats butt about saving the pelts...

I have had a Weatherby 22-250 for over 20 yrs, now. Still shoots great, but hasn't been shot much in the last 7-8 years.......

I'm not a fan of the AI. When this barrel goes south I'll probably rebarrel in .220.

You can pick a ruger target for under 800.00 in 220 swift if ya keep your eyes open. I have also had the first generation vssf in 220 and picked it up for just under 700. Both were excellent shooters. Cant beat neither the 220 or 250 for the 22cal class.

Wish I could find a VSSF in 220 Swift at a reasonable price. But I'm happy with my VS SPS. Eighty rounds through it to date and it shoots fairly well. It did take a B&C Medalist stock and Timney trigger to get it there though.

When I started looking last year I had my heart set on either the Swift or 250. Didn't much care which one I found.

Probably better off with the 250 as Swift brass is probably not cheap.

I have savage predator 22-250. Thing just shoots. I hunt wide open sage country and shots can stretch out there at times, but most are inside 200 yards. Most of the time I love the rifle. But today I called in a coyote and missed it. So today I hate the rifle. I'll love it again when I shoot the next one.
