.22-6mm ackley improved

Quote:
It's a minor point, but to be an Ackley Improved, it MUST be made from a factory cartridge that can be fired in the improved chamber ... there is no factory .22-6mm Rem, so there is no 22-6mm Rem Ackley Improved.

It is just the 22-6mm Rem.

Here is a list of Ackley Improved and Ackley cartridges...

......

* .22/.30-30 Ackley Improved , a .30-30 Ackley Improved necked down to .22 caliber (5.56mm)

.........

Does this mean I can go buy a .22/30-30?????

I think the point is that everyone has coined the suffix AI to mean 40° shoulders (the ° is on the computer). Maybe not that PO himself done it, but (someone) merely used his method of improving a case. Instead of coming up with another name or saying out 40 degree improved... the AI just rolls off the tongue. Yes, I also have both his books, I'm not claiming they made me an expert...

By the way, is there a "degree symbol" on a computer?

Yes there is. Press and hold "Alt" then type "248" on the numeric keypad only. Like this: 40°

No, I'm not a geek, but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn once. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Actually I'm a CAD jockey and needed to know that one back in the days when you had to manually type in the dimensions on drawings.......

Here's a couple more:

ALT 241 = ±

ALT 0216 = Ø

There are others that I've long since forgot. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I will have to make a note of these. My wife always brags of knowing more of computers than I.

Hope she doesn't already know them, then I'll look even worse........

And to think this all started with a simple question about some load data /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

True, but look at all the info just shared..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

+1 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I'd much rather read a discussion about firearms and reloading on a "Firearms and Reloading" forum
than the usual [17HMR for Yotes/Which cheap scope is cheaper] threads that usually end up in a train wreck anyway.
Even though I do know how much 2MG likes to debate scopes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good post.....Good info.

So would that be the 224 TTH Ackley Improved or Masburn I am confused./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Lets cal it the 224 TTH ALT 248 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

So, if you fire an AI cartridge in a factory chamber, do you get an UIA(unimprovedackley) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Catshooter--What Roper states was my original thoughts also. However, I do not have any of Ackleys books.

I realize there is no "real" 22-6mmAI. I also realize that Niedner invented the 25-06, I believe in the 1920's. It would seem hard to believe that it and a couple others were never improved by Ackley. But again, I don't have any proof to go on......

You have to realize the Ackley books are on the 13 printing as of 1986 some newer caliber may of never made the books doesn't mean they are not an Ackley IMHO.

I'm having a 30-280AI build so do I have to fire the case first in my 280AI so it can be a "real" Ackley then neck it up to 30cal? Boy this is confusing!!
