22 Creed.

Well I am going to order a new barrel, MTU contour 26" in 22 Creed.
My dilemma at the the moment is twist rate.
This is going to be for coyotes and will replace my 243 barrel. I want to run 75g ELDM's or 80g. Altitude here is 380 and temps in the winter run 0 to -30. I figure 8 twist, but 7.5 might be the better option.
Any opinions are welcome.

I JUST got my Ruger AM Gen 2 lined out. 20" barrel and a 1x8 twist. 75 and 80-grain bullets work great. If you plan to run Copper bullets there longer for the weight and an 80 will take 7.7X1 according to Hammer bullets.
I'm not going to run copper because of the price; some are 1.5 bucks each. I found some 75 gr HPBT that are .16 cents each. Some of our P dog hunts can take 200 shots a day; every penny counts.

No coppers here as well...strictly coyote, will run as fast and accurate as possible. 👍.
Still doing some research but I'm leaning towards an 8 twist...maybe.

No cans can be used here so I will not go to a short barrel length.

Wait...what? You have a source for centerfire ammo priced at .16 cents each? Please share, I need some 243.

That's light compared to my 28" strait on my 22br. This is the only exercise I seem to get anymore... plus I've always liked heavy barrels never cared for those skinny assed pencil barrels...lol.

Yes @alf seems to usually if not always have some very nice equipment :giggle:.

Hmm 8 twist really a good choice IMHO, I always lean toward the slower 12 twist. But I also have several .22 center fires that do well with that range (7.7, 8).
Will be interesting to see how @gtoad's build comes together. The cartridge choice is definitely capable, although don't have one in that caliber in the stable to prove that in first hand experience. 26" barrel is a winner in my book, if I wanted a bit lighter profile maybe a light /med Palma would interest me. The MTU @26" is a solid go barrel again IMHO, longer barrels usually provide a bit more velocity.
Yeah gtoad Sir I think your selection (s) are pretty solid for your purposes. If you stay with the 75gr length the 1-7.5 would work as well I would think. Although personally I would probably stay with the 8 twist, I seem to always want to shoot the lighter varmint bullets (55gr or less flatbased). It would not be a Sin to go faster with the twist it would allow longer / heavier? bullet options for your pursuit.

(but as you mention the cold weather the faster 1-7.5" to 1-6.5" would ensure stability on those frozen days)

I am torn on twist...but I do want to shoot the heaver bullet.
I have a 22-250 with a 10 twist if I want to shoot the lighter weights.

Plus I'm playing around with my 22br which is a 1/7.5....lol too many choices.

But it does not seem to like the 75g ELDM.😫.
I know Hornady recommends a 7.
