22 Hornet Brass

When I bought my AR they were still taboo for hunting in my area. Most people owning one around me had the old A2 Colts for play reasons. I went out of my way to get one that didn't fit the black rifle stereotype. I got a NM A4 varmint 24" upper right after the AWB sunset and my pre-ban lower before the prices went too high. I topped it with a 6x-24x-44mm Burris Signature and put a DPMS panther grip on it and left the A2 stock on it. No rails, no attachments(except bipod) and nothing tactical looking at all. Even ran a 5 round mag in it. It weighed in around 15lbs. and is as accurate as many bolt guns. Other than a Krylon desert camo job for hunting in New Mexico, not much has changed about it over the years and it is still a v-max launching critter killer. I use to hide it by my side when passers by would see me out hogging in the hay lots. It use to raise some eyebrows when they finally realized what it was. Now you can't swing a short tailed dead cat without hitting an AR around here

I love going to the range and seeing all the guys there with their tacticool ARs like said above if its black and will fit on a rail someone will buy it. I just sit at my bench and run my bolt guns and laugh to myself watching them TRY to hit a torso sized target at 100 yards while I'm trying to fine tune loads down to 1/2" or less at 100. Good thing about them if [beeep] hits the fan they will make a good diversion Haha

I just bought some of the Prvi Partizan .22 Hornet brass, and I'm not impressed. I loaded 30 pieces of new brass to fire form into .22 K Hornet using a Winchester 49 Gr SP bullet, 9.9 Gr H110, and a WSR primer.

Of the first 10 rounds fired, I got split necks on 3 (this is brand new brass). I decided to stop, anneal the cases, and proceed. After the cases were annealed, I cleaned them using Hornady's One Shot Sonic Clean Solution. I've used this for years without a problem. However, when I cleaned the Prvi Partizan brass, it came out of the solution copper colored, like the cases had a brass wash on their surface, and the solution took off the brass wash and left the high copper content brass underneath.

I've never seen this before, and have accidentally left brass in the solution for a week (it came out VERY shiny, but looked like brass, not copper).

It appears that Prvi Partizan is using a very high copper to tin ratio in their brass. The bottom line is, if you don't absolutely need .22 Hornet brass right now, wait for the hysteria to pass and get some American-made brass.

And, by the way, I have been to Serbia many times, and have hunted there on numerous occasions. I love the place. This is not me bashing the brass because it is Serbian, but a honest assessment on my part about the quality of the brass.
